Expanding the city limits and geographic size can be a positive step forward for our community.

Economic development initiatives necessarily require that when conversations and proposals take place that you will be asked about city land size, city population, and appropriate zoning.

With regard to wet and economic development every store has hired locals to staff the store hours, revenues have been recd by the city, and being wet can be at attractive feature when having conversations with potential capital investors.

Not one individual item will be the silver bullit and create the change we all want and need for our community but in a multi-piece economic development puzzle having larger city size and population coupled with wet can help.

Moving forward to create an eco-tourism industry, developing plans for an additional hotel such as Days Inn, creating a plan for a new Clay County Lake, creating a plan for a Red Bird River State Resort Park, working to recruit new people of all backgrounds to invest, live, and work in our community is the best way forward.

A vision to the future, creating sustainable economic development, partnerships with educational and training programs that enable our people to have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to achieve social and economic mobility is essential.

Leadership with integrity is what is required, a mutual concern to improve our community is needed, a public service rather than self service orientation is what should be required of all local officials.

We can do better and working together we will, the motto, "Together we stand, Divided we fall" is a perfect call for unity and cooperation.

What would the citizens gain from being annexed into the city?

Obviously, the city wants to include these properties so they can tax them. However, the citizen who would be annexed in, would not get anything in return.

No city water
No sewage
No different trash pick up
No different fire department service
Extra laws and regulations

The only gain would be the City police would respond further. If you ask me, the Sheriffs Department and State police are doing a fine job right now.

The lake could be situated in various locales since we have significant contributary water sources that can feed into an impoundment area such as the South Fork of the Kentucky River, the Red Bird River, and a number of creeks flowing into the Goose Creek, etc. Needless to say geologic surveys and other logisticals concerns would need to be researched and addresses, but local leaders should move on this project as soon as possible. Again, it is another piece of a comprehensive economic development to move us into the future rather than continue to lag behind. Leadership is the essential element.

Can you imagine the amount of trash that would be floating in that lake? Diaper trees? Heck, how about a diaper lake?

Positive ideas and leadership can make good things happen, is the ideas ambitious, yes, are they achievable, yes, we have elected a number of new leaders and we have rank in Frankfort and Washington, thus local officials should embrace this opportunity to grow our community and develop our potential both our natural resources as well as our people.

Agent: Positive commentary is much appreciated, negative nellies only continue the status quo. We can do better and a large lake for recreation, residential, and commercial usage would be a wonderful new asset for your, my, and our community.

Well, from the quoted concerned citizen in the paper, they enjoy receiving city services for free without making a contribution, so my question is why should the other citizens subsidize their services and not have everyone make a contribution who receives such important services.

George needs to fix the bridge street swinging bridge like he promised to do before he was elected as Mayor. Then focus on the town of Manchester before he buys Y Hollow strip pits for $900,000.00 and golf courses for $400,000.00, thats not even in the city limits or worry about the swimming pool at beech creek that will cost $150,000.00 to fix. I'm sure the Manchester citizens want their city tax money spent on needful things in the city limits. Let the County buy these other things and keep them up. In my opinion thats why George wants to enlarge the City of Manchester because they are broke from buying all of these not needed things. Let the City of Manchester live within their means just like the rest of us. If you can't afford to buy it then don't buy it!

Everyone is missing the main point of why they are enlarging city limits....one simple reason....MORE ALCOHOL SALES. More places selling it more idiots drinking it equals more tickets...its just business people.

You are telling the truth. Just to have more places to sell beer. they would be the only ones to benefit from this. the others will be paying more property taxes, sewage etc. Think about it!

The point should be economic development and increased business opportunties that demontrate that we "Manchester" are open for business, tourism, and a new era of change.

How many lawsuits does the City of Manchester have against them for not paying their bills ? When you run the city like a small child in a candy store. Wanting everything you see but don't have the money to buy it then you have poor leadership at best. When I read the Enterprise and it said one City Council member would not vote on the picks for the planning members because they were close kin and friends with the Mayor and some Council Members I just had to shake my head and say nothing ever changes.

Apparently "Stan" is on the city council or something. We are already taxed to death in this state right now. We are one of the highest taxed states in the country. We don't need our county taking more money out of our paychecks too. It means more occupational, property, and other taxes for those that are annexed. I've had enough of it. If we get annexed, I will sell my home and I've talked to others who will do the same. What Clay County is doing is pushing people out of Manchester instead of bringing people into it. This is just another excuse to pay for things they can't afford just like others have said, and butter the pockets of the crooks who run this town. I say that anyone who is going to possibly be annexed show up at any meetings and complain like hell!!!!!!!!!!
