It is closed for repairs. It will not be open this year. You have to question your leaders judgement when they close the pool for repairs when people will be using it. Why didn't they make the repairs last fall or this spring? Typical politician judgement I guess!!

Whats going with all the alcohol sales funds, that money could help fund the pool We seen no changes since the city became wet

The problem is the city can not just spend the Alcohol money on just anything. A certain portion of it is strictly for the police department, so much for this and that, then the rest of it goes into the general fund.

Rumours were it would cost around $1 Million(sounds like an inflated price to me) to fix the pool. You would have to replace the filtration system and add a new filtration system for the kids pool. State laws now say you can't have one filter for both of them which is what they had been doing.

The same people said the city has been losing quite a bit of money per year running the pool. Paying for the workers, chemicals, electricity, etc... So in a time the city claims to be broke, it makes sense not to open it up.

I understand that funding sources for the pool operations are difficult to obtain but it is incumbent upon the city council to allocate and provide the resources needed for the operation of the only public water park recreation venue that our youth have.

Too many citizens are going out of town to the Barbourville Water Slide Park, the Williamsburg Splash Park, or are not even able to enjoy water recreations due to the costs associated with out of town/expensive water park costs.

Everyone should call the city council and express themselves and should plan to attend the council meetings, each third Thursday of the month. This is unacceptable and together we can do better!

They had try to shut the pool down for the last ten years . But the previous two mayors worked with the statee and made sure it was open for the kids . This mayor now doesnt know how to do anything but ride around in that gas hog tahoe and go threw macdonalds to feed his fat a$$ . Vote someone in that can use their head . SAylor is a idiot.

The truth is not that many people visited the pool. From what I understand the same people visited every day/few days. So their is really no "uproar" over the pool being closed. Sure there are some people who this affects, but the extreme majority does not care about this.

Secondly, if a project is causing a business lose money every year, for a decade, they will shut it down before it ever goes that long. The same should be done with a city government. THe pool and the golf course have been losing money for a very long time. They either need to sell it or stop running it.

Ps- I am definitely no fan of George Saylor, but this is the right decision to not open up the pool. Unless some federal or state money can be used to operate it.

I suggest the City Council allocate the funds needed to operate the pool with a minimal entrance fee that covers the costs of operation. The pool does not need to make a profit but needs only to cover the expenses of operation.

Why not just dig a hole and make a pond? Thats we swam in when I was a boy a creek, river or pond. No expense there!
Thank you

How about we dedicate some of the alcohol tax revenues and other revenues as applicable to upgrading the pool and also installing a water slide system and/or wave pool for local use and tourist attraction.

Oh but wait.. Mayor Saylor wants a new tax now on motels and resturants so they can support tourism. Tell me what great places there are to visit in Clay Co. I know of none that I could get excited about..I think the mayor is making sure he gets his salary that he voted for when he was on the council. Manchester went from one set of crooks, to another set of crooks. You will tax and spend your way out of office Mr Mayor. I hope a good candidate comes out against you.
