<quoted text>Do you have evidence that intelligence is inherited? It is in dispute with the experts on the subject.
I realize it often appears that way, but studies show it is the effect of environment. Mainly a good parent would be a good promoter of studies.
Intelligence is about half inherited, half environment.

Male. White.
I was forced to go to public schools and hated every damned minute of it.
Middle to upper middle class. Self made. Came from a poor family. Neither parent had a high school diploma but both were intelligent people. Both had self-educated themselves. When I was a kid we had a geology professor for a neighbor. I dad bet him $100 that he could take any geology test that he gave his college students, at any level, and pass it with at least a B. He gave my dad one for freshmen. Grade: A. 100 percent. Professor lost $100. Dad gave him the chance to get his money back by giving him one for upper level course. Again: Grade A. Professor lost another $100.
Professor then asked, "Why the hell didn't you go to college and become a professor?"
My father answered, "Why? I make twice what you do now."
I am sure he inherited no information on geology. As you stated, he studied. I am sure that positive attitude toward studies influenced you to study. But to some laypersons, the illusion is, your family was born smart.
Maybe try studying some psychology.

I don't believe in god. I don't presuppose god had ANY reason to have rules like stoning gays because I don't presuppose magic.
Now, I can make guesses as to why people wrote such laws as are found in Leviticus. We have an ick reaction to a lot of sexual concepts and practices. Homosexuality is one of them. I suspect it is rooted in some kind of machismo that guys have. I mean, if one guy can be gay and it is natural then that means YOU might be gay. That's scary for people. And it threatens your need to reproduce.
I mean, that's a very simple explanation and it is probably TOO simple but I think it is part of it.
So, getting back to the question: why do you think it was EVER ok to stone men to death for being gay? I don't give a crap about god, I'm curious about YOU. What on earth would make you sacrifice your moral sense and accept that stoning could ever be ok?
Therein lies the problem , You don't believe in God and are reduced to guessing as to why those rules were given to the Jews.
I believe in God and based on the reasons given in Leviticus and deutoronomy , I can well understand the reason God gave those commandments.
In the process , because I don't believe as you do , you are forced to arrive at the erroneous conclusion that I have sacrificed my moral sense.
Your denial of God has placed you into a situation that I am unable to help you with.
Still in all , even as an unbeliever , if you read through Leviticus , you should be able to ascertain the reasons for my belief , given the reasons that were given to the Jews as the basis for those instructions..... I can understand why you would not want to go down that road..........
The answer is there for you, I do not need to provide it

Only a fool would believe there is no GOD
Onthe other hand, one who seeks God and is provided evidence by Him whom he is seeking, using the evidrnce providrd him,can rightfully conclude and believe there is a God.
An idiot would claim that all the evidence provided was caused by chance or concoct some other excuse in order to justify his/ her calamitous atheist faith.....
There is a God He lives and reigns and Jesus Christ is Lord..........
And here we go with the contradiction of faith. Either there is evidence or there is not. If there is evidence, faith is not needed. You can't have it both ways.
The contradiction proves your god is not real.

There's no guesswork necessary. Those rules weren't given to the Jews; they were created by the Jews.

I also mentioned Leviticus , which you omitted....Read Leviticus again,as I am sure that you already have....

Not so.
When I say poor family, I meant that my parents were poor as children. Both sets of grandparents were tenant farmers / sharecroppers. My father quit school during the Great Depression to go to work and help support the family. My mother was expelled from high school when she married him. They had the money to send me to private school but the place where we lived did not have one. My parents would have home schooled but that was illegal then. So I was stuck in the hellhole of public schools.
And, like I said, I hated every damned minute of it. I really did not get any eduction there either. My mother had already taught me how to read before I started first grade. I was bored through the whole damn process because it was education by the convoy method - everybody moved at the speed of the slowest ship.
So
When you claimed to be from a poor family, it had a grain of truth. That does not make it any less a misleading statement.
Kind of like claiming very specific posters in schools and not being able to show said poster much less show it in a school.

It also says nothing about mental scars. Face it, your bible just makes commands and gives no logic or reasoning for rules.
Our society uses logic and reason for rules and laws.
For some reason you cannot understand this is a good thing.

Your spiritual blindness has your mind bumbling and stumbling on a clear and sunny day.
God clearly stated his logic and reasons for issuing His commandments. That hye did so is quite obvious, that you and other atheists are not able to discern it because of your unbelief ,is also quite obvious.

Evidence is needed in order to attain faith , you just are totally unable to comprehend the obvious, Your problem is called Spiritual Blindness.

Not sure how you came to a figure of 50/50 but at least you showed some evidence of a claim.
It was interesting but I see from the article you posted their is still a dispute.
I was aware a few experts do side with the nature versus nurture. But from my studies on this, I think most experts lean on the side of nurture.

As with many sciences of the human psychology, there is usually conflicting data.

I would like to note, if intelligence is based upon nature so much, better schools would not be an issue. Of course we know that is not the case.

Also, many if not most experts now put little stock in IQ tests. Even the man who invented IQ tests now speaks out against them.
He claims they do not account for many things. A persons education is one of them. It is not a good indicator of how well a person could educate themselves.

Well then I have seen no evidence, so according to you that is why I could not have faith.
If I have evidence of an event, I need no faith to believe it happened.

Damn you!
I wasn't good enough?
I had all "A" grades in every class except one. I had a "B" in math. On a percentage scale my high school grades were close to 95%.
The bastard who cheated off me in math barely got "C" and "D" grades to pass. Overall he was barely 70%. But he got in. That's because of 2 things. One, his folks licked the local officials' asses. Slurp! Slurp! Second he played football. My one consolation is that he never graduated from college. They used up his eligibility to play ball and then tossed him out. Last time I saw him he was working for the lawn service that mows my grass.
Never owned anything to pay property taxes on to come anywhere close to paying for his education through the 6th grade (which was about his maximum learning ability), much less all the taxpayer money that was wasted on him in high school and college. Me, about half my local property tax bill is "school tax." It makes me furious every time I have to write that check.
But now, now there are a lot of people that share my sentiments. And that number of people is growing.
So you are upset the government did not pay for your higher education? I thought your position was the individual should pay, not the government? Contradiction.
You claimed your parents could have home schooled you. Well then why go to college? Just get your parents to teach you.

No. You are the one who is clinging to a position against all reason.
Yes. Public education as an institution is corrupt. And getting more corrupt. Just look at the corruption cases recently in Atlanta. First it was teachers and administrators changing kids test answer sheets to make the school score higher so that they, the teachers and administrators, could get paid more money. Then it was a massive high school football scandal. Kids were recruited to go to certain schools and play football. One was allowed on the team who never went to a single class at the school.
In schools all over the country smart kids are sometimes forced to do school work for dumb ballplayers. I know I was - until I refused, got into a big row over it, was threatened with being expelled, and the principal and my father actually came to blows on our front porch. Me, I would never have used my fists on the bastard. I'd have used a large monkey wrench.
And programs for the "gifted"? Bullshit. I could read comic books and children's books before I stated first grade, but I got stuck in the slow learner group just because my parents did not have high school diplomas. That was the school policy. That still happens today. So don't give me your Socialistic "equal opportunity" shit. It is a damn lie. All of it. Public schools don't exist to give everybody an equal chance to compete. They exist to perpetuate the status quo. The whole system is designed so that nobody can rise from below no matter how great their potential is.
Are you now claiming a person cannot rise to the top in a public education system? That contradicts the evidence of a fairly successful country with public education.
Are you successful?
I do not recall if you ever went to college? I see you got no scholarship, so could your parents not pay for your education?
