The city cops need to stay in the city and do their job, instead outside city limits standing in stores flirting with the girls for 30 minutes at a time or longer while in uniform and city police cars.......etc

Come on City officials, quit pouting and being a spoiled baby. We don't want to be part of your dirty, broke, crooked City. Keep running the City to a hole in the ground and leave the rest of the County alone.

Maybe the city should try annexation when they have something better to offer than a share of their debt.

Before the City Officials go off half cocked and make changes that affect hundreds of people. They should really do some soul searching. Usually when you are trying to spite someone it usually comes back to bite you in your a$$. This Mayor and Council needs to check if this is really necessary or are they are doing this to spite and show a handful of people they can hurt them and their family for not going along with the plan to expand the city limits and almost double the size of Manchester?

It would be interesting to see a full disclosure of the city's money situation. Cash, equipment, facilities, income, expenditures and debt. Does anyone outside the council know how much has been paid on the Y hollow property and how much is still owed?

Why would you want to put Jamey Mills back in, the whole reason he got fired was because he wanted the fire department to stop responding to calls until the city agreed to pay the fire cheif!!! Funny that he got fired for wanting to do exactly what the Mayor is planning, but everyone knows George is to stupid to come up with any idea of his own, even a bad one,so I guess he had to steal this idea from his ex buddy!

First of all I heard the comment the citizens of Greenbriar do not want anything the city has to offer. Fire department is a courtesy offered by the city to the fine folks on Greenbriar not a requirement.

It wouldn't be fair for the fire department to respond to a home located way out on Greenbriar and not be available to cover a citizen of Manchester whose paying city fees.

Stop whining you all stated overwhelmingly that you do not want anything the city has to offer, which would include fire department. I'd be saving up some cash for insurance until Greenbriar secures the funds to build their own station.

Good Luck.

One of the reasons the fire dept. has such a large coverage area is they get a lot more grant money for that service. This is clearly a case where people didnt want in the city limits so the council decided to show they had something to hold over the head of the citizens who spoke out at the meeting and made them mad. I would think they could pray about the actions of a few and not punish the many. I know they are mad at some of the people who spoke at the meeting and I understand why but is cutting off protection for a lot of people, even though they will leave the city to go to wrecks so they can collect money , the right thing to do. At that meeting the city announced they got 20,000 dollars to paint murals on the buildings in town. Was that money a grant from the city or was it state or federal. If it came from outside sources then everyone at that meeting paid the taxes for that. That means the city is using tax money from the very citizens they are wanting to cut fire protection. If the fire dept. gets any federal or state grants they are cutting off peoples protection whose money is used to fund them. I hope the council make a decision based on the right thing to do and not because a few made statements that made them mad.
You are right

If you really want to know any thing about city finances or anything that goes on in the city, just go to city hall and ask for it. Every thing is open record. That goes for anyone else that wants to spread the facts instead of rumors or hearsay.

Regardless of how you feel on city services or annexation your civic engagement (attending meetings) and your election participation (voting) can make a tremendous difference in the operations of the city, the county, and the board of education.

Open records and transparency is critically important so that citizens know what is going on, what funds are raised, and how the funds are expended and by whom.

Holding elected officials accountable is very important. They are not entitled to their seat on the city council, the fiscal court, or board of education nor any other office in the county administration.

We have seen some turnover in officials but we need more. We need more public service oriented and less self service oriented officials. We need real leadership which is demonstrated by the ability to speak to the issues, speak to the community, and be able to articulate a vision to improve our hometown.

What is the Down Side, to being in City Limits, I know Taxes are the Big Issue, however I get a Great Home Owners Insurance Rate, because I Live Close to a Hydrant, and am Less than 2 miles from Fire Department, I think George has thought this through, and there is a Lot a Stake! It is Very Hard to even Get Insurance, if you Live in Manchester, or Ky., just saying, will we Get Garbage, and Sewer, and Water, and Police, Help Me Decide, which Way to Go! I Thought Liqour and Beer Tax, was going to Solve our Problems!

One of the problems is the Council nor Mayor will answer the questions you have 99% in the meetings. However, they will outside of the meetings.

They will not provide garbage pickup, water, sewer, or electric to all of the proposed citizens. They did say they will add one or two police officers, which could be helpful.

A large reason that most people do not want it is the added restrictions. In the city you are not allowed to burn, shoot fire arms, etc...

I will say if it did go through I would be happy knowing a few more people would get a job with the police department, but thats about it.
