More than two million dollars is owed in back child support in Clay County and local officials say they are tired of waiting for payments.

WYMT's Greg Robinson visited the office for the division of child support and has more on a new program that is getting a lot of attention.

Clay County Attorney, Clay Bishop was tired of people not paying their child support, so he and his office came up with some incentive to help make them pay.

These people are wanted and their crime according to the Clay County Attorney is not taking care of their kids.

“They prioritize their debts and their children are not even on the chart, that is unacceptable,” Clay M. Bishop said.

That's why he and his office staff started hanging these wanted posters and he says the idea is simple.

“If they come in and do the right thing, they come off the board, if they come in and sign the pay agreement and make the first payment and then we don't see them any more for three months they go back on the board. It is as simple as that,” Bishop said.

But not everyone thinks that's a good idea.

“No, it's not fair because you can’t get a job here in your hometown and you end up on a wanted poster,” Michelle Shane said.

But clay bishop says that's no excuse.

“The electric company can't put you in jail, your landlord can not put you in jail, I can put you in jail. I don't want to but I will,” Bishop said.

And now there's a poster to prove it.

While Bishop credits his office staff for coming up with the idea, he hopes surrounding counties will pick up on it and start doing the same.

The posters feature people in Clay County who are behind in their child support payments.

Some of the people owe as much as $60,000.

Well I hope this works, I know a guy that's 3,000.00 behind and no were to be found..He has figured the system out and beaten it...But there is one system, he will never defeat. I hope this works.

Amen about there being one system he won't beat. God will not be mocked.

Every parent, man or woman, should WANT to provide for their children; regretfully, many do not and will not.

I say hold every single parent accountable for the well-being of their child!

I believe there should be consequences for anyone who gets behind on his / her child support and simply makes no attempt to pay. However, those consequences or sanctions should apply unilaterally to everyone guilty of this. One problem, and it's a problem way too familiar to Clay Co., is that Clay M. Bishop uses his position to try to punish specific people, whom he or his drunk buddies, either don't like or have some sort of vendetta against, and this doesn't just apply to child support cases. He is a true scum bucket. I can't for the life of me understand why the feds didn't put him under the penitentiary when the other officials were arrested because I know for a fact that he was just as guilty of abusing his position as any one of them. There is no other place on Earth that someone of his character and with his issues would ever hold an office like that. I guess his father paved or paid the way for him. After all, a last name determines one's worth in Clay Co. I guess Clay will pay for his transgressions when he is burning in Hell. Enjoy the good life now Mr. Bishop because this life is only a millisecond of your existence, and how you treat people now will ultimately determine your eternity.

County attorney clay m bishop jr announced at thursday fiscal court meeting that jis office collected $1,417,220.22 in child support for 2013. I havent seen any of it for my child or children yet and he has not paid nothing
for a year must be nice . One of bishop's role as county attorney is to orchestrate the child support office, which works with parents to establish collection and enforecement of child support obligations, along with several other duties.. bishop's office collected a record high dollar amount for clay county child support cases with the 2012 numbers. "I couldn't hardly believe it and i asked my book keeper to confirm it, but we collected $1,417,220.22 here in clay county in 2012. I have no reason to believe it won't be better for 2013," said bishop. "I just thank the lord that he blesses me with a great staff and the ability to get this job done. It's a tough job but wanted to share that good news" bishop says his office will continue to work hard in continuing collections for the betterment of the county's children.

wymt greg robinson needs to come back down to good old clay county and interview some of the parents that are having to raise there kids without the help of fathers because of who they are in good old clay county my ex hasn't paid child support in a year a they said that he was fine child support is bias of some people that they know and they will let them slide . It took me two years to get my ex's child support because they didn't inforce it and he didn't spend any time in jail for it either and it took him two years too pay me through the child support office and that's the way the system works for clay county for some of us they need to stat letting some pull some jail time in like the rest of the surroundings county's o how nice our child support system is . The children need there support now has they grow up not 2 years or 5 years or 10 years from now and letting them get by with it for years isn't any system i approve in .

Maybe the county should pay out from a pool rather than individually. That way at least everyone gets something.

I think any parent that has custody of the child or children should be the one to support them so many parents have to leave home in order for the other one to get helpin a lot of cases the father has to leave but the woman can take another man in and get food stamps and a check as long as he is not the father he don't have to help with the bills and she can get food stamps on him in the mean time they spend money to find and lock up and keep up the real dad just think if all the county and state jobs were given to the real parents and all these wealthy people and shit would have to give their job to someone that needs it give the family the same that the state would get if they were in prison in other words stop paying people to break up their homes. if a man or woman has another man or woman into the home they should take the support them. .

. U really need help. Why should it be some other mans responibility to support a child without the help of the biological father doing anything except making more babies he's not goin to support let me guess you have a man that has kids by another woman and you don't want him to pay think about the child

if there is no man in the household yes but if someone else lives with if he's got the woman then it's his family and he should take care of his house not some body that's been put out for him.
