If you think it is dried up now, wait until a Wal-mart super center comes in to town. They will shut down everything in town and still not hire anyone. You wil still have to wait in line with one or two registers open. Other businesses will shut down and more people out of work. Thats the wal-mart way.

Yes, we need more retail businesses, 100% agree.

But, we need to work more diligently to attract some light manufacturing industries much like what was announced in Hazard earlier today in the news. If a business will locate in Hazard then why not here, we are closer to I75 and have more access auxillary routes as well such as 11, 80, 421, but as usual we lack the leadership to make good things happen.

Why are we not trying to attract a business services company to locate here for call center support services. Why are we not working with EKCEP to get a Kentucky Teleworks jobsight hub located here in Manchester like they have in Hazard.

I applaud London, Corbin, Hazard, and others but geesh how about we make some serious economic development progress as well, our families and our community needs an opportunity.

Why? Why not? Both good and interesting questions.

We got the Y Hollow strip pit and the Elk Hill road to no where to be proud of. What else to you want our fine city and county officials to do ? Buy another Golf course and turn it into a cow pasture.

Patriot CEO Roger Ford said that is because the original site near Willamsburg doesn't have the infrastructure and highway access they were looking for.

Ford said Corbin and Whitley County officials have been notified about Patriot's hopes to develop what the company calls its "Integrated Energy Park."

The deal is still contingent upon the required infrastructure and suitable state incentives.

The request page cannot be found. It has either been moved or is no longer available.

He worked in tobacco periodically to make ends meet and began submitting applications to once again drive a truck. But he simply had been out of the game too long and needed additional training he couldn’t afford. When that stay stretched to five years, the resulting gap in employment—combined with Mike’s being 69 years old—posed a problem for him when he chose to try to re-enter the workforce.

So after eight weeks in the Clay County Job Club, Mike was hired to drive a bus for Daniel Boone Transit Transportation.

This stan seems to be a one wonder wiz, he loves to post stuff from other web sites instead of facing reality. Like so many have stated it about access and affordability that keeps business from locating here. this crap about Manchester having good access with highway 80, 421 and even 11 is crazy. Know company would use little 2 lane curvy roads that just plain old coal trucks have trouble with. Stan is a hot air windbag that is either a council member or a want a be politician that has no concept of how business operate. Spouting out crap you read on other web sites, using big words does nothing to help anything. I been to hazard, corbin, London and other small places they got what we don't good access, people not eat up with greed and a work force that can be depended on. Sorry stan if it hurts your feelings but use your talent of web reading and big words and see if you can get a bigger highway or something that a business would want to use then maybe something worth while will locate here.

Again, if all you can do is "slander, call names, and make insults" to others who are attempting to spur reasonable conversations about sustainable economic development then please keep your ugly, non-productive thoughts to yourself please.

Yes, we need infrastructure developmen and it will require real leadership, now, not later, now! We cannot wait till the next census report in 2020 that will show another decrease in population, we are likely to fall below 20,000 citizens which will make it even more difficult to grow and develop.

It is negative oriented, personally insuting people like you that have caused many good quality citizens to NOT seek an elected office.

Nobody wants to have to deal with such negative persons when all they really would like to do is help our community grow and become a little more prosperous. But, far too many people like to castigate and throw stones when in reality they could be much more effective if they made sure they voted every election cycle, resisted political favorites, and special interests and created conditions for real change.

Are we likely to be Gatlinburg, Branson, or Nashville, NO, but can be help our people have a better opportunity, yes, I think so.

The people that have money to buy things will not shop locally, they had rather spend their money in London or Lexington. When you spend your money locally it comes back to the community. The money will help a business owner pay the mortgage, put their child through college, etc. I encourage everyone to shop with our local businesses.

I tell you what there clay county, have you shopped any of these local places, their prices outrageous. I can buy 4 times more stuff going to London, hazard or corbin then I can local. You got such a better variety, more choices in other places then here. I keep looking for that holiday express or that red lobster all those pushing alcohol sales said we would get. I suggest you go to iga there clay county buy groceries then go to either London or hazard and spend same amount you spent at iga and see the difference.
