I don't work on the fire department and I don't get SSI either. I work and have always worked. But I would like to ask you one question. Do you work on the fire department? If not then all I can say is that you better be glad someone is working on it, no matter if they get SSI or not.
If my home ever caught on fire then I'd be grateful for any fire fighter to save my home, no matter if they get SSI or not.

Some people who draw SSI can get what they call a "Ticket to Work". Depending on why you draw SSI, you can work part time hours and still keep the full benefit. When you turn in your work time and if it's over the hours your allowed, they deduct it from your check. I know this because someone i'm related to is allowed to work part time and still get SSI. Call and ask the social security office about it or go on the ssi.gov website.

If they get a ticket as you call it to work, why can't they take a full time job and get of ssi. Don't give me that old crappy line oh they can't make enough to support their families if they was to loose their ssi. Heck when I started working made 1.25 an hr, I kept looking found better job never cried for a government tit to suck on off other hard working people. That's what's the matter with this country, reward you for being sorry.

You do realize the fire departments in our area are all volunteer and they do not get paid, right? Be thankful for them. Many nights when you are warm and cozy in your bed, those volunteers are out in the cold, rain, snow, and often in the wee hours volunteering their time to help others, all for no compensation. Hope you never need their help!

That's the whole idea. The government wants SSDI recipients to go to work so their benefits can be reduced or eliminated.

If they're that able-bodied they don't need SSDI. They need to be out working and paying taxes.

On the other hand, we do need our firemen, and who couldn't use a little extra income.

So, I think I'll quit flapping my gums.

I can't confirm the truth about how you say this fireman is getting a little extra income, but I can say that they do deserve to get paid for what they do for the people of this county.

My fireman puts in a lot of hours and hard work there. It really says something about a person who volunteers so much of their time in this way. He works his butt off outside of the fire department as well. Don't generalize them all by what you say one person does. They're good people.

If you have worked and retired you can work, but if you are on a disability you can not work and still draw. What is so sad you have people who have worked all their lives and these low life bums draw more in ssi then they do in social security. They had better be glad I am not in control, all these ssi people would have drug test, be in job training and this pretending to have a physical or mental problem would come to a halt. Now all who want to get mad, whine or cry go ahead I could carless, I got no feeling for bums to lazy to work.
