Ah, young man? I know many who've been in and out of the service by this time. He's reached the age of majority and should know better.

A young man should be used to addressed late teens

Well, Sad Sack, the man certainly isn't an "old" man or even a "middle-aged" man. But you're right about one thing: he certainly should know better!

There are three ingredients to make gunpowder (black powder). Sodium nitrate, Sulfur, and charcoal.

When I was a kid I experimented or attempted to make gunpowder. I could not find the nitrate at my local hobby store, and probably because of its main use in explosives. Yet kids that have an interest in chemistry may do stupid things like I myself did (many many years ago).

With the environment or fear of terrorism that exists today its understandable to see these reactions. The old joke of "my kid blew up my garage with his chemistry set" now gets looks of horror rather than laughs.

Its good this kid was caught, he had evidently gotten past the stage of "experimentation" and was now refining his recipies. He needs to learn this stuff is not to be played with unless you have legal permission to do so.

It reminds me of the story we recently had of the guy with the fireworks hobby in Centreville.

Stuff like this has no place in populated areas, and the people that do attempt to practice working with this type of material need to be certified and have a real purpose and not just curiosity or hobby.

Parents wear blinders and refuse to see what their kids are doing, then when their kid does something wrong then they blame society. Sorry Mom and Dad, the blame lies with you. Face it!

My parents have nothing to do with this. They raised us up good. Pandora, I'm sure that you were raised just fine too and that you are raising your kids up fine (if you have any). They have done their best to raise us up right and my brother is old enough to know better. My parents never blamed society for our wrong doings. But after the comment you made I'm sure your parents did. You are too quick to put the blame on others when the blame should be put on the person that did the action.

You are all a bunch of kids. Plus you need to learn how to spell. And it's none of your business what he was booted out oft the military for. But it wasn't for making bombs. Your all just too afraid. He's a good kid.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Libra

Don't try to do too much at once today or you'll disappear up you know what! You're all fingers and thumbs, accident-prone and things start breaking. It won't help if you're trying to concentrate at work and a certain chatterbox doesn't know when to shut up. Ask them to be quiet but try not to sound shrewish.
