I have friends who are neighbors of this family and it is so sad to hear.

how could this possibly happen? I have met the mother a couple of times and she seemed very smart, caring and compassionate. It doesn't seem like something that would happen to her.

i am a father of two adults and as a father i am trying to figure out how could a parent have been so iresponsible. And for people who say this was an accident im sorry you are crazy you dont accidently leave a baby in the car for 7 hours. This is a tragedy but i feel something needs to be done. I am not one to use race as an issue but if this person was blk i feel they would be locked up by now

I agree Mike. We all get frazzled, stressed out, whatever - but I cannot wrap my head around just "forgetting" a child in the car. Would the older siblings not notice the child was missing? Where did they think the child was? You mean to tell me that no one missed that child from 9:00 - 4:00? Bizarre...there must be something more to this story. We hear WAY too much of this - especially in the summer months...it has got to stop!

This is very sad. Sad for the dead child. The irresponsible parents bears total responsibility and should pay the price for her neglect.

How can a parent not care for their child?

I agree that if this woman was black she would be in jail.

You're right, she probably did it on purpose. Anyone who thinks a parent could accidentally do somethingtragic is crazy. Accidents just don't happen in the real world. And you sure aren't one to use race as an issue, thanks for not doing that.

What about if you are upstairs cleaning, and the last you saw your child was asleep on the couch... then you look outside and he/she is face down in your swimming pool? What if you are a police officer and after a long nights work on night shift, you come home and place your gun on a chair, forgetting you left it out... then your child grabs it and shoots him/herself the next morning? What if you forgot to lock your front door before bed the night before, and your child wakes up mid night and goes out the front door and gets hit by a car? These are ALL mistakes, all mistakes parents would not want to make if given the choice. Even if it leads to the death of a child, it's still a mistake, an accident on the parents part b/c at the end of the day, we are all human... the brain is not perfect, and therefore it can sometimes conflict w/ our otherwise good intentions as a parent. The right set of circumstances on any given day can lead to the most terrible, terrible tragedies. Unfortunately, this stuff happens... and it happens many times a year. Instead of judging this woman, who I'm sure is already suffering beyond what many of us can even comprehend, show compassion and realize she is human, just like each and every one of us. If you have an open mind, read this for a different perspective... if you are a close-minded, judgmental, "this could never happen to me"-type individual, don't even bother.

BTW, the mother who was cleaning upstairs while her son drowned was my mother, although my brother (blue, limp, and unresponsive at the time) survived thanks to a neighbor who performed CPR. My mother was/is the most amazing mother in the world, my brother and I were/are her life...

Not buying this theory of being too stressed, too much work, too distracted, it could happen to anyone. First rule of being a parent your children always come first!

By the way on other forums there are postings this mother had left her little boy in car before at her place of work, and other people got him out of the car.

Forgetting your child anywhere is not a "mistake" it is criminal and she or whoever put that child in the car should be held accountable.

While the parent is suffering after the loss of the child how about how Ryan suffered in the van.

Mother of three,
Can you please elaborate? Can you please tell us the web address of these other forums? Thank you.

She is talking about where someone posted "APPARENTLY this is not the first time she left her son in the car..." on another topix post, which sounds more like a he said, she said (the "apparently" says it all). Unless it's been witnessed firsthand, there is no credibility there.

It was posted by someone on WTOP comments when first reported and then by someone else in the other topix thread.

Why would someone post something like that if there wasn't even a thread of truth.

None of that really matters again someone left that child in the van. Someone did not know where the child was for many hours. No excuses here, just bad, horrible parenting.

I have seen the comments and am a client of Dr. Murphy. I also am close with a number of individuals who work at Caring Hands. It is NOT a rumor that Ryan was left in the car before- it is a fact. It has come from a number of individuals that work at Caring Hands, many of whom were there the day it happened previously. If you had the chance to talk to any of the Caring Hands workers with first hand knowledge of the previous incident, you would know it was true just by the tormented look on their faces. The Prince William County Police are also well aware of the fact that it happened before according to a PW Police Officer and I have heard the same from individuals with access to the police report.

Well, that is very sad... I really don't know what to say now. I was sticking w/'let all the facts come out or for something credible to come forward before judging', but this is just unexplainable? If I EVER accidently left my child alone in a car, I can tell you right now... a HUGE change in my life would take place- whether switching jobs/reducing hours, being a stay at home mom so I can be completely focused on my children, a dramatic change in routine... whatever to ensure my kids are 100% accounted for at all times no matter what. If this incident happened once, I don't understand why she did not become more proactive about this, I would be on the phone w/ the daycare first thing and say "if my child does not show up to daycare again, you call this #, this #, this #, and this # until you reach me or my husband so we can confirm. This is so very sad.

You obviously do not know the case- she did not do it intentionally to punish the child. The police have never claimed that, the police reports do not support that, and the evidence does not either. They do plan on charging her, but not because she was leaving Ryan in the car as a punishment.

I live up the street from the Murphys as well, it is hard to take your posts seriously Casey with all of the misspellings and awful grammar. I find it surprising that a PW Detective would be married to someone who obviously has had minimal formal education or would want his wife posting on his behalf. I know most of the Murphy's neighbors and don't recall one who seems as uneducated as your posts make you appear. I think you might be a troll!

I agree, if her grammar is this poor... who knows how she is interpreting what she's supposedly being told too. Your poor grammar gives you little credibility.
