Residents from 3 towns oppose plan for Wal-Mart Supercenter

Full story: Asbury Park Press

Everyone wants Route 9 to stay the way it is, but Route 9 is getting very busy. Residents from three towns expressed their opposition to a proposed Wal-Mart Supercenter when company representatives recently discussed a concept plan with the township's Planning Board and the public. via Asbury Park Press

I can't wait for Wal-Mart to come to Tuckerton - we don't have any department stores like that in our area and to go to Manahawkin especially in the summer is a nightmare. I will still frequent the local businesses also.

I can't wait for the Walmart either. I hate driving all the way to Manahawkin and wasting all that gas. I go to Walmart often so it will be nice to have one in closer proximity.

Looks to me like the other 3 people that posted their comments are employed by walmart or just plain stupid.
Monica since your from manahawkin why would you drive to LEH to go to this walmart stay in manahawkin
Marie I don't even know where monroe township is but I am sure there are other walmarts closer to you then LEH.
And Lindsay.um are you aware that there is a walmart down in mays landing, along with the hamilton mall so why would you drive to manahawkin save your gas and stay where you are
The people in LEH don't want this walmart,we don't want to be like manahawkin walmart should just go away Come on people stop letting there out of towners tell us we want a walmart

Why does Wal Mart want to build a superstore in LEH?
How does this area justify a store larger than the Manahawkin store... and to be open 24 hours? What does Wal Mart know about the future of this area that we don't? And come on now, Manahawkin is only six miles away, about a 12 minute drive. Plus there are all the other stores nearby.

I heard that they are going to close the manahawkin walmart when the LEH one opens up.Why can't they just stay up there? they now have too much competion up in manahawkin people would rather get a quality product and a fair price not that cheap crap that walmart pushes on everyone.
I pray to god it doesn't get built

I live in leh, don't know why they said I live in manahawkin.I still think alot of people in LEH want the walmart here.I understand that we do not want to look like manahawkin but one store to all the houses/schools that are being built would not hurt.

It makes me sick to think that this supercenter will be built. I have lived here my whole life and have seen the destruction of natural resources in this town speed up in the last 10 years or so. I like the fact that all the stores and traffic are in Manahawkin, away from my eyes, away from my ears, and away from my lungs unless I choose to drive there when I need shopping done. We do not need this store here, what do you think will happen to the 539 & Rt 9 intersection when the store is open? We can barely handle the traffic now. And it's not just consumers that will be traveling these roads, it's employees and endless stock trucks. Open your eyes people! Wouldn't you rather be inconvenienced by a short ride in your car to stores than live with the inconvenience of what this WalMart will do to our town? And Monica, you said that one store won't hurt but don't you see it's going to open the door for tons of other stores. Don't you think the housing developments that have been built here in recent years and the plans for all those in the works are enough? Leave Little Egg Harbor alone, go build somewhere else!!!

I think that if you put a Walmart in Tuckerton the traffic on Rt 9 is gonna be inpossible and it bad now, look what they did to Manhawkin it a mess! there a Walmart there and a Target is that not enough stores for all you people. If you all want all these store why did you move to this area were you got to drive to a store. If you need all these stores move back to your town. Leave Tuckerton alone

There is no need for a Walmart in Little Egg Harbor. In the fall and winter there will not be enough people to support a 24 hr store. The parking lot will become a hangout for all sorts of things. Plus did you know that in Massachsetts the Walmart refused to sell certain drugs to women. Since when do they get to decided what drugs a doctor can give his patients.

Whats wrong with driving ten minutes to the already overcrowded Manahawkin to do your shopping.
WHO WANTS all the truck traffic, noise & rif-raff that follows Walmarts. Just look at manahawkin.

WalMart will hire anybody in the area and then drag in more.. Crime, taxes, cars, people and dirt will follow. WE are not in control. Big business is.. Move while you still can!

I believe that WalMart here in little Egg Harbor would be fabulous ! The young people out here have very few options for employment. Driving them to either Manahawkin or LBI is troublesome and costly. The location that is selected for this store is a really slow part of Route 9. It is definately needed here. Also why should all the tax money go to Stafford Twsp.{ Manahawkin }, It would be a great tax burden relief ! Hurry up Super Walmart ! I am a fan supporting you

What ? How long have you lived here ? You must be from somewhere else with blinders on.I have been here for 21 years and all thise negetives you mentioned have been here all along. Perhaps if there were jobs to keep the youth busy and useful..crime would come down ! I live only 2 miles if that form the proposed site..Bring it on WalMart !

Perhaps in reality the other WalMart..of which is NOT a Super Walmart..Is only 10 miles or so...But from April through October we have to deal with Shore visitors of which congest that area and make it crowded and slow moving adding burden to the travel. Once again we need the tax break off the residents and onto Big Bisiness !

Aside from primarily being from Monroe we pay TAXES to LEH also. It would be nice to have a Wal-Mart for shopping close by not that you have to travel to Manahawkin or go on the parkway to Hamilton.

Sorry to disappoint you but I am the mother of 4 children and 53 years old..All of my 4 children attended these local schools. As a matter of fact one of my children aged 28 worked in the Manahawkin for about 1 year while waiting for a job opening that has a higher pay and many benefits including health ,vision and prescriptions. But Walmart might not be a career but it certainly does have it's purpose..No jobs being offered in an area allows too much time for the cjildren to ger bored and into trouble ! Please consider what you right before you go off the handle and show your ignorance to other readers.I like Walmart and I shop there frequently for a number of items. Where else has that kind of pricing ? Like I had written I lived here 21 years at the same home amd saw this area in Little Egg Harbor change not for the best either. You can't blame Walmart it isn't even here yet ! I bet you are a retiree from the city living here a short while. Do you think you would have the right to influence the township over long time residents ?

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Aquarius

This is another day when financial matters cause trouble, as Mars reverses in your seventh house. What started off as a minor niggle with a partner or an opponent yesterday could now escalate into a full-blown row, but at least this will give you the chance to get certain things out into the open. Legal issues from the past may become ugly. If you're pointing the finger of blame at someone, don't get so heated that you accuse them of everything under the sun.
