You think that the Amish are very reliable, truthful and all around good people. That's not the case! There are bad Amish!!!!! I had an Amish girl cleaning my home (while I was not there). She stole from me, broke things, and had her BOYFRIEND over! Then after I fired her, I found out she was shoving whatever she did not want to put up under the beds, and in storage closets. It's been a few months and I am still working on getting my house back in order. Not only that, I found baskets of clothes piled high in the guest room that I never go in. I guess she did not want to put them up or fold them either.
I am still discovering things that have been missing that are no where to be found.
When I approached her to ask about things missing, she said she did not know, then a few items magically appeared the next time she
cleaned.
When I could come home early, I would find her watching CMT or GAC and wet hair (I guess she felt like washing it while she was here). I also caught her one time wearing my clothes. She changed before she went home.
BEWARE!!!! DO NOT HIRE AMISH !!!
DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!!!!
I am sure there are a few good ones, but why take the risk? They live and act like they are so much more Christian than all others, when they only hide their sins and bad people within their communities.
I am curious to see what other bad experiences others have. Here is the place to post.
I left her and her families name off because I am a good person and wanted to vent my fustrations not humiliate someone.

I hired some crazy Amish once that had a Jamacian in full dred lockes driving them around.
The day they came to do my roof Bob Marley is knocking on my door along with zz tops.
Anyway I had to go to town and when I got back they was jamming on the roof to some Hendrix "Purple Haze". I could smell the odor of Ganza in the air as well.
I beleive they left more nails in my swimming pool than in my roof, but other than that they didn't do a bad job.

I live in northwest Ohio and I am surrounded by Amish. Their lifestyle is more about being tight with money than it is a religion. They are constantly abusing the system at local businesses. At East of Chicago pizza for example a whole van load will come in, one or two will order the salad bar, then 6 or 8 of them will go pile their plates with pizza from the buffet. They have taken over the park in our town. They don't pay taxes to support the park, but they flock in by the dozens and use the facilities, then leave without cleaning up the shit from their horses.
The biggest problem with them in my area is that they are not sanitary. They shit in 5 gallon buckets and throw it over the fence into our fields. It is sick! They do not comply with septic requirements in our county, but no one wants to do anything about it because their gross lifestyle is hidden behind the "cloak" of religion.

The Amish will steal from you, lie to you and do anything else they think they can get by with. They think all "English" (which they call everyone who isn't Amish) are going to hell and that anything they do to us doesn't matter. Also, they teach their kids to hate the English because they are so afraid that their kids might leave the Amish when they are old enough. That is the main reason that the kids usually don't say anything to us when we speak to them, only a sly smile. The Amish won't sue each other but let something happen to them on your property and the first thing they think about is a lawsuit. Take my word and don't buy any baked good, etc., from the Amish. Most are very dirty, don't have running water and don't wash their hands after using the outhouse and their kitchens are full of flies in the summer. If you work for the Amish (driving or anything else), you are going to get the shaft. The only way to deal with them is to make them pay in advance and they won't do that. They all do shoddy work when they are working for the English. It might look ok for awhile but just wait a year or two. Now, they are always asking the English for rides to Wal-Mart and wherever but when was the last time you saw an English person riding in an Amish buggy? They wouldn't give an English person a ride if the English person's car broke down and they only had one leg.

are you kidding i had a amish do my porch they asked for half the money then the next day asked for the other half then said it needed more work and charged me more. they used boards that had holes in them, i told them not to use them and left when i came back they used the boards and also cracked my sidewalk. then i hired one three years ago to do my roof oh yea thought i was getting good work ahhhhhh i got crap for work. in two years my hole house was leaking and the insurance didnt cover the work said it was a bad roofing job and the amish even admitted he cut corners and shouldnt have and he would try to help, well that was three months ago and he never answered my phone calls and never came around i am taking him to court if i can. i think it is terrible i asked him if he had insurance he said yes when this happened he said he had none. so they lie and cheat and want the money and dont care about the job. i suggest you hire someone you know paying a little more might not be a bad ideal at least you will have a good job. so far i had to pay over tweleve thousand dollars out to fix what that amish guy did to me. dont say they are good people thats what i thought too. but found out they have cell phones power tools ride in cars and do not cover their work mistakes dont care whos friend they are i had so much respect for them now i cant stand to look at them knowing how they took my money and never backed up their work

obviously you've never hired them to do anything, anyone can be good all around good people on the outside but wait until they give you a quote and then do the job,my husband is a Mason and we did not have time to do a 40 by 100 barn so we hired on leash, because everyone rave about how hard and good workers they were, right away my husband noticed that the block walls were going up crooked not even, when you're building $100,000 bill that you hope that someone gets it right, had to fire them husband had to finish work, we hire different crew for the roof, big mistake and they were done roof leaks,so not all Amish are good, they think English have money to steal ,they charge high prices and do not know over 8th grade math

I have seen the sewer problem also , the county rakes us for septic tank cost but they get to trow on field , by the way i would be scared to death o buy their can beef ,the hay they feed their cattle is the same septic tank shit they put on their field and bale that hay, their cattle are grossly underfed ,their families hide their sick and diseased they bury their dead babies in back yard

You are correct
People here who know....local long-term residents...wont allow amish workers to build their home due to poor workmanship.
Im in Lancaster County

My sister rents from an amish person.
They bring their tools and freezer to her garage and plug it in for free
and basically use her modern day stuff.
Then they charge exhorbitant rent and refuse to repair anything on the house. I believe a lot of it is they are simply too ignorant to understand electric and plumbing.
They DO understand getting top dollar in rent though!

I have lived in Lancaster County most of my 60 years and I can say
nearly all the so-called 'religious' beliefs of the amish are simply ways they can take advantage of the system we have in place today.
From not paying road taxes and destroying our roads with steel wheels and horseshoes to using the hospitals when they get sick for free. They pick and choose which laws they want to follow as per cost. I come from a Mennonite background and I can tell you it's all about the MONEY for the amish and the Mennonites. Tight with a dollar and totally devoid of compassion or human understanding towards others is part of their culture.

I have an amish girl cleaning my house every week and she does a great job and would never lie or steal from me! Maybe you all should point out your own faults before the amish people's! And also they do have running water and toilets same as we do!

The bishops I know are the worst of the lot. Just like the majority of Amish, all about taking advantage of people and animals...puppy mills, mean to horses (I saw an Amish man kicking his horse repeatedly in the parking lot at McDonalds) The horse was no doubt too tired and weak to go. And the way the women are treated is disgusting. A 30 yr old Amish woman generally looks 50 from child-bearing and overwork.
