Malfunction in Malverne

Full story: Newsday 19
You can almost hear the snickering that probably accompanied the Malverne Police Department's research of "special observance" days. Full Story

You failed to state the fact that the Village of Malverne approved this contract which gave the officers the day off ! Didn't the village board read the contract before they signed it ??????????

No the Trustees who were elected to the Village Board of are the ones with the authority to determine if and when special days are granted, not individual police officers.

THE VERBAGE ON THEIR CONTRACT HAS ESSENTIALLY STAYED THE SAME OVER THE PAST 25 YEARS. BUT ONLY OVER THE LAST 4-5 YEARS HAS THE DEPARTMENT DECIDED TO SEARCH OUT THESE OBSCURE HOLIDAYS AND TAKE THEM. SOUNDS LIKE THE POLICE HAVE GONE OUT OF THEIR WAY TO SCREW THE RESIDENTS. THE BEST IS, THEIR UNION REP AND LAWYER FEEL THEY DESERVE IT. FOR WHAT? THEIR THIEVES. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Newday failed to mention some important facts. Not surprising.
FACT: This "practice" started in 2004. Aresta only received 1 day in 2004 and never even took the comp time off. 2 other days were added to his time without his knowledge and again, he never took the time or benefited from the time as Newsday failed to mention.
FACT: This clause has been in the contract for over 30 yrs, but was only exploited under the current PBA president's direction. Maybe the union president should stop hiding and answer questions as to why this is. He isn't even a Malverne resident! So why should he care!! These cops through their union and attorney are fighting to get these days back. Shame on you!!!
Speak for yourselves PBA members! Explain yourselves!!

just a question. If Malverne residents are so interested in keeping their community "lily-white" why were they interested in combining the Lakeview and Malverne school districts?

Message to Todd......back to school for you. Learn the difference between the words "their" and "there". Also.....the meanings of "to" and "too".
Message to fed up.....The Malverne School District is made up of 4/5ths of Malverne, 2/5ths of the Village of Lynbrook, parts of Rockville Centre and West Hempstead, and 100% of Lakeview!

How many officers shared the half-million dollars? Is fraud still a crime?

TYPICAL Long Island police looking to suck every last dollar out of us over-taxed citizens while hiding behind the UNION. IF not Illegal it is certainly unethical for ANY of them to have used these joke holidays for monetary gain. You have excessive salaries, hide behind the badge, a golden parachute pension after a short time and benefits?

Why not go out in the real world and STOP complaining to the overtaxed citizens who pay your rediculous salaries.

I just received a letter asking for a donation for the Malverne PBA.(This is not a joke.)I feel like telling them I already made a huge donation in special holiday pay. If timing is everything, the Malverne PBA blew this one!

Donating to PBA's only enhance their warchest, used to pay union attorneys to negotiate better contracts, so your taxes may pay them better!

The cops are all thieves. They take free meals and coop behind the 7-11. They are way over paid. Cut their salary and hire more, then we won't need overtime.

Are you talking to me in this manner? I had always heard that this was a vote for Malverne residents in the 60's or 70's. Apparently this info was incorrect, but that does not mean that you should be insulting. Watch your mouth bozo there is enough unkindness in this world as well as in this chatroom at times.

Mr. Delamuca Glad to see you moved out of the area. Stay out east-it suits you. As for Malverne schools, money had nothing to do with the decision to integrate and I challenge you to find a minority community on LI that can compare to Lakeview. They are hard working concerned citizens with well kept homes and communities. I would prefer living in Lakeview than have you as a neighbor.

FACT: This "practice" started in 2004. Aresta only received 1 day in 2004 and never even took the comp time off. WRONG - HE PUT IN FOR THREE SEPERATE DAYS, AND WAS THE ONLY OFFICER TO EVER REQUEST THAT HE BE PAID IN CASH!!!!
2 other days were added to his time without his knowledge and again, he never took the time or benefited from the time as Newsday failed to mention. NOT POSSIBLE- HE WAS FULLY AWARE OF ALL THREE DAYS< HIS REQUEST IS IN HIS OWN HANDWRITING. HE HAD A CONVENIENT LAPSE OF MEMORY WHEN QUESTIONED ABOUT THEM
