Let's see what the Mayor will do now that's it has hit the bright light of the public's eyes.
This should not be in the next contract, and what Mayor and trustee have approved the contract's past and present, are there any on the present board?
Shocking!!!
My understanding is this clause has been in the police contract for 30 years. It is a legitimate clause for use on days it was intended to be for. It was when the interpretation of the clause was changed that the abuse began.
Our mayor brought this issue to the residents at a public meting in January or February. I was at that meeting. It's not Newsday that made it public.

I guess the great chief brought this to the mayor. Well this great chief got a 45 thousand dollar raise from the last chief but i guess thats ok. When your now making $185,000 dollars a year for a 23 person department and have to answer for the overtime you look back at the benefits you got and lie about it and say you knew nothing about it. There could have been a way to solve this contract issiue if he never lied about it from the beginng, this contract oversight could have been solved through communication between the union and the village. Will see if anyone questions the village about a 45,000 raise, talk about wasting tax payers money.

Is this excesive, yes it is but it was negotiated in the contract. Its not stealing and the cops aren't lying. They took advantage of a perk in their contract. I agree with one of the people questoined, take the perk back but don't penalize them for what's already been done. The cops do a great job in the village and they have done nothing wrong.

If I received a parking ticket on those days the Malverne PD are getting paid for "days off" (Child Health Day, Haym Salomon Day and some 20 other obscure holidays), does this mean that I don't have to pay the ticket?? It is a holiday, after all!!

I just received a letter asking for a donation for the Malverne PBA.(This is not a joke.)I feel like telling them I already made a huge donation in special holiday pay. If timing is everything, the Malverne PBA blew this one!

the police did not take these holidays on their own they were given to them by a supervisor, so blame them not the police. if your boss said i am going to give you extra days off are you going to complain.

Its in the contract so pay they cops!
Their Chief should be sticking up for his cops not trying to bring them down. Lets just see how many tickets those cops write for him (and the town)now.

They cop who master minded the holidays has just been forced into early retirement. The alternative was criminal prosecution. So, I guess you're right that he won't be writing any tickets!

your info is wrong - the cop who is in charge of all time records is said to be receiving a promotion this week - it all depends on whose ass you kiss in the village of malverne.

PERHAPS THE RESIDENTS ALSO NEED TO QUESTION WHY THEIR POLICE CHIEF "SOLD" HIS PERSONAL CAR TO THE VILLAGE FOR USE AS AN OFFICIAL CAR, AND WHY THIS OFFICIAL CAR IS USED TO TRANSPORT HIS WIFE AND THREE KIDS TO THEIR VACATION HOME IN PENNSYLVANIA EVERY WEEKEND AFTER IT IS FILLED UP WITH GAS AT THE MALVERNE DPW, ALL PAID FOR BY THE VILLAGE TAX DOLLARS.
THIS IS THE VERY SAME CHIEF WHO LIED TO THE VILLAGE ABOUT THESE SPECIAL DAYS. HE HAS A VERY SLECTIVE MEMORY, AND THE VILLAGE BOARD HAS A VERY SELECTIVE WAY OF ENFORCING THEIR RULES AND REGULATIONS. IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE MAYORS FAVORED FEW, SHE LOOKS THE OTHER WAY. IF YOU ARE NOT ONE OF HER CHOSEN.........LOOK OUT.
SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO A REALL CLOSE EXAMINATION OF THIS VILLAGE BOARD, BECAUSE WHAT THEY GET AWAY WITH IS LITERALLY CRIMINAL

If this is true, then maybe this police chief should be elected mayor. He found an innovative way for the village to pay for his personal car use. Imagine what ideas he could come up with when he is mayor.
