The article incorrectly states, "A portion of Lynbrook is a hamlet ... "
By New York State definition, parts of a village are not hamlets.
Once again, NEWSDAY confuses the community named in a place's mailing address for the community where that place is actually located: North Lynbrook is a hamlet where all the places in North Lynbrook have a "Lynbrook, NY 11563" mailing address, but no part of North Lynbrook, the hamlet, is in Lynbrook, the village.
For those who may not be familiar with Lynbrook:
Alternatively know as Five Corners and Bloomfield, the area became known as Pearsalls Corners (to honor general store owner Wright Pearsalls), Lynbrook -- which is Brooklyn spelled inside-out -- is a village (incorporated in 1911) in the central part of the Town of Hempstead, in the southwest part of Nassau County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Lynbrook is bordered on the north by the Village of Malverne and the Hamlet of North Lynbrook; on the east by the Hamlet of Lakeview and the Village of Rockville Centre; on the south by the Village of East Rockaway and the Hamlet of Hewlett; and, on the west by the Village of Valley Stream.
The Village of Lynbrook has a different border than does the "Lynbrook, NY 11563" postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Lynbrook, NY 11563" mailing address and not be in the Village of Lynbrook and a place can be in the Village of Lynbrook and have other than a "Lynbrook, NY 11563" mailing address): places that have a "Lynbrook, NY 11563" mailing address that are not in the Village of Lynbrook are in the Hamlet of North Lynbrook and the Hamlet of Hewlett; and, at the same time, there are places in the Village of Lynbrook that have a "Rockville Centre, NY 11570" mailing address.

I've been looking for a house in Lynbrook and I find portions of it dated and pricey. Some of the houses need to have major repairs or the neighborhood could fall to C-level. (That's saying it is a B now. Some areas seem like a B+)The prices seem to be falling, but they have some distance to go.
