Cops are not allowed to strike or cause a work stoppage.
Haven't you heard of the "Blue Flu". They may not be able to strike, but there are ways around this. You can have people call in sick. By calling in sick you give your friend the right to overtime. Tomorrow he calls in so you get the overtime.

I guess Newsday lets the Mayor off the hook for negotiating such a deal. Maybe she feels that Cops don't deserve to make a fair salary. Ms. Mayor, my guess is that deep down you loathe the Malverne PD.
The mayor's husband is a cop! Get your facts right

Sorry, officer, but I make more than $230K a year. But as for your example, if nassau cops are worth nearly 1/4 of a million a year, the guy collecting deposit bottles is worth about $150K
Most folks are too smart to settle for this job because they can make more by using their brains elsewhere

It's called a "CRIMINAL ACT", and better yet, "EXTORTION", and the victims are the taxpayers!!!
Greed, when does it stop? As long as there is a Union, there'll be corruption.
Merge them with the NCPD! All those useless little departments are nothing more then some political patronage.
Good question, when does it stop? Extortion is extended to all citizens when you get "surcharges" on parking tickets, or any volations.

This MESS WAS CREATED during the previous administration with a different police chief who retired very quickly and quietly.
Mayor McDonald and the new chief get to mop this mess up.
In addition these cops make over $100,000 a year and some spend the night sleeping in their houses.
Finally, the mayor's husband is a NYC police officer. It's time to get your facts straight
Does anyone realize that the mayor has lived the good life off of the NYPD, all she has is because of them, if her husband had not been injured she would not have anything on the salary of an NYPD officer. She should be grateful to the malverne pd, they deserve everything they get, they go out and risked their lives for the taxpayers and keep the village safe. The village would turn into lakeview or worse without them, its the cheif and mayor that needs to go not the police.

I agree that many cops work rather hard. And as in any profession, there are bad apples everywhere.

However, there is an actual value that they police provide to the community. Same can be said of any civil service worker, from meter maid, to teacher, mayor to sanitation worker.

These jobs should be paid at a level that they can fill them at, not at a level where people are dying to get one of these jobs. Not at a level where you have to know someone to get one of these cushy jobs.

Malverne police do deserve a fair pay, but not an outrageous pay. They should get paid holidays, but Child Health Day, Gerald Ford Day, Gold Star Mother's Day and Shirley Chisholm Day? LetÂ’s all take a step back and be realistic here.
