What nonsense. Apparently, the Malverne cops have been getting away with murder. Up to now. Time to fix it.

I want that man representing me the next time my contract comes up.

Apparently Malverne cops interpret "public service" as soak the taxpayers for as much as you can get away with, until you get caught. I just wonder how come everyone was asleep for so long at the watchdog switch.

The Malverne P.D. is reinforcing the negative stereotype connected with civil servants. It's a shame that the public perception is that they are the norm rather than the exception.

I bet these cops can say they deserve the days off with a straight face too. In fact they'll insist they earned them. It is absolutely mind blowing and downright obscene, the sense of entitlement cops have. What a bunch of out of control spoiled brats. If your kids acted like this you would tell them they'll get nothing and like it.

This is a prime example why a growing number of people disdain unions.

Just another nail in the coffin of Long Island!! Greedy public workers screwing the people they are supposed to protect. Turn the page Newsday readers...nothing will be week it will be School administrators, then Water Authority execs, then fire dept supervisors. It makes you sick, but we swallow it anyway because the unions and weak greedy politicians wont do a thing about it. I can hear the music playing Long Island...just waiting for the ship to sink...

And our taxes on Long Islad are so HIGH because?????

Disband the village idots police dept and let the use Nassau County PD.

PS You want to see corrupt - go west 1 town and look at Lynbrook PD - on their website they have enough equipment to invade Cuba!

Malverne is one (1) square mile and the dolts running the town paid total police expenditures of $3,421,690. It would be cheaper to pay the criminals to stay out of town.

I didn't see what the yearly salary is for the average cop in Malverne. AllI saw was the starting pay exceeded that of a NCPD, but no mention after that.

I would like to know if Newsday isn't being unfair to Malverne cops with that kind of reporting.

The perks may be no more of compensating them to bring their salaries up a bit without having it in the budget.

Does anyone know the salary of a Malvern PO with let's say 8 yrs on the job?

Follow the lead of Greenport....eliminate the police dept. and return the money to the people in the form of a tax reduction. Some of the windfall will be needed to cover the cost of the REAL Police (NCPD) to absorb the sectors with additional patrols.

To even question what these devoted heroic public servants do !!! They risk & sacrafice their lives everyday for the people. So what if their getting payed for days when they are not suppose too and draining a few extra bucks from the tax payers.Thats just the price you pay for their good service.I mean who else will be there to give out costly seatbelt & parking tickets.Thats right THE MALVERNE POLICE always at your service. This advertisement was sponsored and brought to you by the police benevolent association :-} We appreciate your donations !

Typical blue collar people- dishonest, greedy scum. All these village police depts. are corrupt. The FBI should investigate the Amityville Police Dept. especially.

I guess Newsday lets the Mayor off the hook for negotiating such a deal. Maybe she feels that Cops don't deserve to make a fair salary. Ms. Mayor, my guess is that deep down you loathe the Malverne PD.
