Verizon's residential telephone service grows shoddier and shoddier by the day as they focus on internet, telephone, and wireless.

And their rates are ridiculous.

National Grid cut Verizon's cables. So why blame Verizon?

This is what happens when a local business is sold. If LILCO was still in business, this never would have happened. LILCO was a more responsible company and they were the original company that ran Long Island's lighting and gas operations.

Who is National Grid? Are they a US corporation? Aren't they British?

LILCO, in the old days would have checked the maps before proceeding to dig and found there were phone company lines in the way.

This just seems to be complete neglect on the part of National Grid.

Are you serious here? Why doesn't Cablevision owned Newsday print any stories about cable customers being without service? I think we all know it's not because it doesn't happen. The Dolans control every word printed in this rag and there would never be anything written against their precious company.
And as far as the cut coming from a British company, let's get real. It's not like they fired everyone and brought in all the lymies. Someone made a mistake, and this story is trying to exploit that.

Probably someone from cablevision/news 12 under orders from the criminal Dolan family. I can see them starting to worry. Maybe long island can get some real unbiased news from verizon and this upsets the crooks!

Absolute nonsense...they dont tell you how cablevision doesnt have to charge taxes yet provide the same main components that Verizon offers-newsday is a dolan controlled piece of crap...never gonna read a story here about how cablevision leaves customers out of service for days..i know cus i am a cable customer, fios isnt allowed to provide video service in crookhaven, and i was without service for 4 days. But Newsday isnt gonna print that story. And why all the outrage-Verizon wasnt at fault, NATIONAL GRID was. Verizon cant just snap their fingers and repair this people. People continue to complain about Verizon having shoddy service but for along time they were the only game in town and for my 20 years of having them for service(or there predecessors) I never had an issue once. Customer saervice sucks people say...but what company has great customer service? Cablevision has an extremely long hold on their customer service lines as well.

Oh stop already. Cablevision has DVRs and "neet widgets" like facebook and twitter is part of the internet. Has nothing to do with Verizon.

When Optimum Voice was down for 50% of Long Island last week, THERE WAS NARY A MENTION on this POS site.

Way to go Dolans. Newsday is such a joke. Wait until they make you pay for this crapola in a week or so.

I would like the editors at Newsday to read this post a second time, please. Be fair...if you report one company's outage, please report the other's...even if it's your parent company. Of course, this post will be deleted shortly.
