I would guess it depends on how you use the term. If you say “College Town”, meaning a town with a college in it, Gettysburg is a “College Town”. If you use say “College Town” and mean a town where the college dominates everything, and everything evolves around that is happening at the college, no Gettysburg is not a “College Town.” However I believe during the winter months when tourism is down, I believe college students make up around 20% of the towns population
The Battlefield and Gettysburg National Military Park will fortunately or unfortunately dominate the town. And many times the town is controlled by activities of the National Park and the historic activities.
As to Gettysburg becoming a “casino town”. Again how do you use the term. If you are talking about a town where activities of the casino dominate the town, and that is the only or primary reason people visit. Gain the battlefield and National Park will be the primary reason people continue to visit Gettysburg, and not the casino. The casino will be a side attraction for those who wish to visit. If you use the phrase “casino town” to refer to a town with a casino in it, again no because the casino is not and will not be located in Gettysburg, it is in Cumberland Township.
But I am sure some will use that term, especially those who currently oppose the casino in Cumberland Township.
You have too much time on your hands. You really didn't have to go into detail about something so unimportant.

You live "around where?" And where are your measly 21 credits from there Mr. Ivy League?(You do know what Ivy League is, right?)
You've never heard of ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT. That is why you don't know there are TWO colleges in the town you pretend to "live around".
With a meager 21 credits it sounds like you neither have the academic credentials nor the athletic talent to go to college unless somebody pays your way!
Do you question all people this way? Oh you ARE so smart. Wish I were like you...NOT!!!!!!!!!!

I can transfer my credits to almost any college or do a challenge test. Sounds like you think you are better than anyone else. Are you lonely at the top?
The Bullets are actually a D-III power in quite a few sports. But colleges offer more than just sports. You know that. I'm not going to knock your own academic experience. I take it you don't go anywhere near downtown.

I'm from Montgomery Count. I moved here eight years ago. I don't go through or to Gettysburg often. When I do, it is for pool league on Wednesday nights. I have been to the middle school for the reassessment meeting and to the court house for the pro casino rally. I also went to the Eisenhower Inn and the Harley dealership for the meetings about the casino.

I need to get out more. I am a member at the Gettysburg Eagles. I know, wrong place to notice college students. I just never thought of Gettysburg as a college town. For now on, I will.

Now to change the subject...Hanover is probably the most racist town I've ever seen. I know 40 years ago every town was racist, but Hanover seems to be stuck in time.

Fair enough. I certainly am not aware of every college in all the small towns near me. As far as what determines what a college town is, everyone's mileage may vary. I think of Gettysburg as a college town where a major historical event happened. But that's me, I've never confused my opinion as being THE opinion.
Hanover may be racist, for Pennsylvania. I couldn't say because I've never seen any issues whenever I've been there.
What I would ultimately like to know is how the visitor center fees in Gettysburg compare to other national parks or similar historic sites. Are the costs of putting in a 9-figure facility at a time when many national parks are closed for periods of time being pushed directly to the visitor?

I don’t believe it is proper to attack Joe, for having a “measly” 21 credits. What do you know of him? I know a 17 year old that has 12 credits, and a 72 year old who is hoping to get his college degree this year, it is his plan to graduate with his grand son.

The fact that he is pursuing a higher education is admirable, and I wish him luck.

And if he is working his way through college it is even more admirable. It is difficult to maintain a full time job and go to school also.

You don't have to believe it was proper to "attack" CrackheadJoe or his measly 21 credits. What's wrong with having 21 measly credits, anyway?

You are the one who in your post # 101 refered to them as "measly 21 credits" and then in my complete reply in post 109 I was basically defending him. I do think it is admirable to be pursuing a degree, and if he is working his way through college even more so.

It only took me 30 years to get my degree, working and raising two children along the way. So I will never look down on someone with a “measly 21 credits”. Everyone with a degree at sometime in their academic career had only a “measly 21 credits”. Every doctor and lawyer I know at sometime had only a “measly 21 credits”.

WoW, what's so wrong with having "21" credits?? Perhaps, this person has a full-time job and has to take care of an elderly Aunt and going to college part-time to secure a better paying position. Who gives anyone the "right" to even hammer down on someone, the amount of credits they have?? Are you helping this person in any way, shape or form to achieve their goals and possibly secure extra credits?? Didn't think so, just go sit on the porch and ask tourists as they pass by " Are you okay with the latest ticket prices"?? I'll check back at ya, with your response. pass the pretzels please....ROCK ON!!
