This annoyingly loud organization is driving down the house values in Bothell.

Why would anyone in their right mind put a gun range near houses.

Before you start thinking that the gun range was there before any of the houses in the area, I near 216th St SW. My house has been here since the early seventies, it was there before Kenmore Gun Range.

I've contacted the city and they said they will do nothing about it because the cops go there to practice. Why do the cops not have their own in-house gun range somewhere?

Once more reason I hate living in this backwards city.

The Kenmore Shooting Range is owned and operated by the Wildlife Committee of Washington, a non-profit sportsmen's club over 60 years old. This 80 acre facility devoted to the shooting sports is one of the most complete shooting parks in the U.S., with facilities for archery, pistol, rifle, airgun, and shotgun. We are centrally located at the north end of Lake Washington, about 10 miles from Seattle, Bellevue, and Everett.

I go to the youth rifle club at Kenmore gun range, and I have to tell you, this is a very good club. They teach youth from ages six to eighteen the proper ways to use guns safely and responsibly. No one has ever been injured or near injury in this club in the history of its existence. The coaches also comment often that the children and teens learn well, because none of the holes accidentally shot in the roof are there because of the youth. They are safer and more responsible than some of the adult patrons. That is virtuous is it not?
The youth of this generation do well to be informed on the benefits and safety involved in using guns. Too many people nowadays are overly paranoid of guns, because people use them dangerously or for vandalism (these aren't murders I'm talking about here, I'm talking about shooting guns in the air, taking pot shots at road signs, etc.)
The best way to make guns safer is education, not lack thereof.

Also, in regards to putting a gun range in a residential area, each of the ranges have solid bullet-proof backstops, so anything shot on the range will hit a twenty-foot mound of dirt, rather than flying off into neighborhoods. The shotgun range of course, is impossible to put a backstop on, but they do not allow rounds powerful enough to escape the range. There is also a ring of dense vegetation around the outside of the range, so in the unlikely event of a stray shot, the trees and bushes should stop anything.

In regards to the noise, little can be done. However, they do try to be soft on the neighborhood. They have cerfuws for visiting shooters on weekdays, 8 at night I think (they allow club members to shoot until 9) and on weekends they shoot no later than 10 (and that's on the indoor range, so the sound is muffled)
The high power ranges and shotgun ranges also close earlier than the low power rifle and pistol ranges, so the noise is already reduced by around 5 or 6. I can hear the shots from my house, but I don't mind. After living hear for a few years, I only hear them if I'm looking to. Most people learn to tune it out.

In hopes of a better future,
Matthias

Yeah, you should reason that anything that has gunpowder is pretty much guaranteed to be loud. Very loud. If you dont like it, move. You complain about housing prices. Theyre all going down...

Everyone has an opinion and I endorse an active gun club, but feel you should rebut in a gentleman like manner so as to uplift our (shooters/gunnies) appearance to the general public who tend to be anti-gun. Why antogonize them and increase the separation of our thinkings.

@Mathhias, Peet
You guys did a nice job of appearing professional and seem like responsible adults from both of your posts.

@ GUN-JUNKIE
Please refrain from calling someone a dumbass, unless you can properly use the words they're/their/there. You dumbass. I learned how to use those words in the fourth grade.

@dillweed
Please refrain from calling someone a dumb son of a bitch, unless you can properly spell the words "taught" and quite a number of other misspellings. Also, you frighten me to the very core of my being with your angry words. You should not be allowed to own a gun. Your statement "we will ignore you as your home is invaded and your church goin asses get murdered in your house because you are such whiney wieners" could easily be taken as a threat to someone's life, which equals jail time and the removal of the right for you to carry a gun. You cannot form a rebuttal saying "Oh, but it's free speech!" No, it's not. If it interferes with someone's life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness, it's not free speech. It's a threat. And I hope someday you serve time in prison because I don't want someone like you living free in the United States. Actually, first, you need to go to prison, upon where you need to get some serious therapy, because to me, it sounds like you have built up anger issues/problems.

Have a good day. Seems like ass-backwards-ville is in play here, because people that like to own guns usually are conservative, and would be the first ones lined up to go to church. I'm a liberal, I go to church, and I am going to own a gun when I turn 21, to protect myself from maniacs like you. Don't ever make threats against anyone's life like that ever again. I can't believe you're 55 years old. Your post makes it seem like you're 17, and I'm only 20.

Both my self and neighbor belong to the range. I bought a family pass for my son so that he could take his family to a safe environment to shoot rifle and archery. For those who are antigonized by the gun range,you should go and get educated there. Learn how they do things. In times pass, it was permissable to go out in the woods and shoot. That is no longer an option. A range, such as Kenmore or any other range allows not only members but the public to enjoy a safe environment to practice and learn.

Perhaps you should drive on down to the range and complain to them in person instead of venting on the web?

Finally!! Someone with some sense in their head. It makes me feel optimistic that you are the future of our country. I own a gun myself and I am ashamed and embarassed to have anything in common with these people who seem to flaunt the faults of our educational system. Thank you.

why is a gun range a problem... I live close by and hear the shots coming from there everyday..i love it..it makes me feel safe..its not like its for criminals...its getting close to hunting season so the shots pick up .... as American's we have to right to bear arms .. why are my rights being threaten ..... because someone wants there house to be worth more money... a house is to live in not make money from.... if you think closing a gun club would help the home prices YOUR WRONG... your home is not an ATM... WE SHOULD HAVE A PLACE TO SHOOT THE GUNS WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO OWN..
