MALONE - A Malone woman admitted in county court on Friday that she abused a puppy over the summer, causing it multiple fractures

Shannon French, 41, pleaded guilty to a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals.

District Attorney Derek Champagne said the beating was so severe it left the animal with two broken legs.

When French is sentenced on Feb. 19, she is expected to receive a five-year felony probation term. Mr. Champagne said the fact that French has no prior criminal history is part of why she is getting supervision rather than incarceration. Although the charge is a felony, the law sets its most severe punishment at two year

Gotta be something wrong in society,, when innocent and helpless children and in this case an animal are deliberately hurt or killed by supposed adults..its a sign of a sick society.. I am sure this woman learned her lesson.. yep,, more fitting if she spent six months in jail ,,, than the joke of probation.

I agree she should et jail time .what's the difference a child or a puppy .if someone would do that to a poor little puppy ten what would they do to a child hat made them mad.She should serve some time in jail that would teach her not to do it again .just giving someone probation for doing that crime is wrong .our system is messed up .some get more time for doing less than that .

Why the heck does someone beat a puppy? They should put her in a puppy kennel for a few weeks .
Hope she doesnt have any children.
I have a 5 yr. old sheltie and love my dog to pieces if I ever seen anyone hurt her I,d be mad. They would be arrested .

apperently no one actually reads all the comments posted before they leave a comment, SHE DID NOT HURT THAT PUPPY she took the fall for it to cover the boyfriend to save her self from getting beat, and she has two great kids AND NEVER WOULD SHE HURT EITHER ONE But the only thing she is really GUILTY FOR IS NOT LOCKING HER ABUSIVE BOY FREIND UP SO HE WILL STOP BEATING ON WOMEN AND ANIMALS

So because she is stupid and took the blame we should be nice to her???

Seems to me that someone who has 2 kids would want her abusive bf arrested. She can't be a very good mother if she is keeping a man around that abuses her!!! Does he abuse her kids too. Most abusers do not stop with the gf. She is suppose to protect her kids and animals that's what a good mother does! The bf couldn't beat her if he is in jail.

There is NEVER any excuse to stay with someone who abuses you. There are all kinds of way out and people and places more than willing to help you get out of that kind of miserableness! Anyone who stays does it because they are stupid and won't ask for the help they need. Your a victim the first time it happens, maybe even the second... After that you're just stupid especially if you have kids you fail to protect!

she would never hurt either one??? she is fully participating in child abuse if she is subjecting them to sights of physical violence. That's called a BAD mother!

The whole judicial system needs a complete overhaul. Individual towns are making their own rules. There has to be something concrete and universal across the whole USA. Judges are going by their own set of rules. They are making the decisions on who should go to prison or who should not. A slap on the wrist isn't the same as jail time.
What I don't understand is a suspended sentence. If a person is guilty and likened to go to jail then let him or her go to jail. Don't give him or her a suspended sentence. It doesn't mean anything. Or supervised incarceration at home with an electronic monitoring device. This makes about as much sense as a dog collar.

well there will be an arrest if the police are called...EVERY time.(Not just when she wants to get the upper hand) But there wouldn't have to be EVERY time if the woman handled it the first time. Beat me up one time, you will NOT have the chance to do it again!

Well for one thing if she was being beat she should have gotten away from him there are ways. Even if your affriad of your abuser you can still get away. There are safe houses to go to. Call the troopers and he will be arrested for DV. Get a restreaining order and I sure wouldn't under no cercumstances have taken the blame she could have told the law that it wasn't here when they arrested her and he would have gotten arrested for both. There are ways no matter what if she didnt do it why take the blame. Her kids are older i do believe like teens and older. So making up excuses for her doesn't help her in any way either to face the truth. shes just as resposable for the situation as him.

Very nicely said, people in this day have to take responsibility for ALL of their actions. I guess they think it's just easier to do what they want and cry excuses later...
