It's obvious you 3 haven't been to the Elks lately. There's no mayor frequenting the club. Haven't seen anyone partaking in any drug sales there either! Oh, and to you PAST, are you a member? Do you want to be a member? If you are one, step up fool! The joke is you damn idiots who have probably never stepped foot on the premises. And if you are indeed a member, you don't deserve to be initiating this pathetic post. Go away ;-( you are much too irritating.....and apparently lazy as well. Just bitch and moan, don't bother contributing in any way and follow in the footsteps of most Topix posters why don't you. Going nowhere in a hurry!!!

You misunderstood. They're talking about the MALONE Elks Lodge. Not some place in IOWA. Geesh.

If you think 'reputable' is the scene of the crime where local elections are decided before a single ballot is cast, in absolute collusion to defeat democratic processes, well, then, welcome home.

Unless, of course, you're the plant from the Federal Elections Commission that we've all been waiting for. Then, by all means, have at it.

And yeah... these bastards ran their BARTENDER for Mayor of Malone, against a screwball kid with abuse issues. So much for WE THE PEOPLE, at least in Malone.
Haha

Actually Todd Lepine was very good friends with Rob Davis, who was the club steward at the time. One of the bartenders left on maternity leave so being the good friend that he is, Todd offered to help out.

I did buy some quality coke there once, though.

While I do not feel that elections are "decided" in the Elks Club, it is a place where there is some good old boy decisions going on. Mr. Lepine became great friends with the Democratic Chairperson during his bartending stint. Unfortunately, this has impacted his decision making as Mayor. Fortunately, Mr. Lepine does not have a majority of the village board under his control so this has limited some poor suggestions that he has made to the board.

Although, I am concerned by the rumor that the Democratic Chairperson now wants to be the lawyer for the village board. What a disaster that would be. Hopefully, the board majority will deep six this idea also.

I do believe that the final decisions are made by the voters. Unfortunately, sometimes the choices have been limited as witnessed by the election between the bartendar and the abuser.

Nope - don't believe in Santa anymore.

But I do believe that you can make democracy work if you stay informed and are willing to get off your butt and work at it.

An example occurred in the last village trustee election.

Kevin Nichols (Democratic Chair) and Joe Riccio tried to push a candidate through the Democratic Committee. Those Democrats present, stalled it and another meeting was required. At the next meeting, 2 weeks later, a good democratic candidate was recruited (Brian Langdon) and even more Democrats attended the meeting and nominated Mr. Langdon - much to the embarrassment of Mr. Nichols.

If you just sit back, you can whine about the good old boys. But if your willing to work at democracy and fair elections you can get results - at least on the local level. It can be difficult and uncomfortable but there is no use whining if you aren't willing to push back when the good old boys push you.

Perhaps...

But it pays off to be alert and prevent some of the old gaurd (Mr. Nichols is a prime example) of picking and choosing people whose main interesting is keeping Malone as it is - instead of people who are open to change.

I will take a puppet who is open to new ideas and change over one who has his mind made up and is more concerned about his ego than the people in Malone.

Hey "Not From This Side", you seem to have a lot of information regarding the village board. Hope you are not acting unethical again. Maybe you should spend more time mis-managing the Chamber or negatively affecting the profitability of the Fair. If by 'good candidate' you mean someone who hasn't spoken a word without your approval or should be in jail for harrassing another male you are absolutley right about this candidate. What the village board needs is someone with a backbone. Not another sheep. Bahhhhhh!
