So who else thinks that in a town riddled with sexual offenders and recently release Prisoners, that they are making our young children who live within 3 miles walk to school??? Something must be done to stop this!! I realize money is short and budgets are low. But handing our children off to the world on there own as young as 5 years old is not the solution. I only pray something is done to stop this madness before one of our children is hurt, or worse killed. ALL PARENTS need to write and complain...as well as attend the next school board meeting to let them know this is unacceptable. I refuse to allow my 5 year old to walk to school. And Since we all have to work it is impossible for us to walk him or drive him everyday. Parents of Malone please Join me in rallying to stop this .....before one of our children is hurt!

First off the school its 1 mile not three and if it is close they will make an exception. second if you look at the facts of sexual offenses against children one it is done by fmaily members or close friends and two done at night when they can not be seen not out in the public. Secondly, this has always been the policy since i was in school.
So if you want to rally the public get your facts straight first before you spew out wrong information

Spoken like a true idiot with no Children to be concerned about. Let me ask you this smarty pants whats the average distance most children are abducted from "1 mile from there home!!! Nothing you said makes the danger any less real! But you ll wait till a child is hurt. Don't worry the rest of us "adults" will handle this. I literally laughed out loud when I read your post! You seriously need to read up on a few things

Yes, get your facts straight! I don't agree having little 5-8 year olds walking, but maybe having kids learn the facts of life early will help with the responsibilities of parents. Also 60% of the children in Malone are obese and need the extra exercise. So teach your children safety rules and watch them grow!

Frnaklin county has the highest insest rate in the country so yes it is done by family members. I have done my research. Sad but true. And I do have a child and i care very much about them and have taught them and walked the route with them many times over the past few weeks and introduced them to merchants on the way to flanders so if they ever felt worried harmed or need help they have people and the knowledge to handle it. Is it a lot on my kid yes but I know that they have a greater responsibilty for themselves because they are prepared and ready.
It facinates me that our society puts all the owness on school. when do we as parents take on some of the burdan too. Oh wait the rest of You "Adults" will take care of it for my kid. Im sure glad I dont have to teach them any more now that they are in school. Thanks

Interesting how you called him names but couldn't refute what he said. You are just another useless parent who expects everyone to raise your pathetic children but you. Grow up. If you can't take care of your brats yourself, quit having them.

Wow... You are a peice of work! You are going to attack the children calling them pathetic brats when its the parent who has a problem with the bus situation. And I have to say I agree, not so much about the sexual predators but in the north country it gets awfully cold outside, deff not a place for any child regardless of age or in you eyes "economical class" to be walking outside in to get to school!! So I think YOU need to grow up and stop attacking the children.

Now it isn't Dominic barse! It is the school board! Go to the board of education meeting on Tuesday at the high school at 7pm. It is in the library. I will be there and having petitions for parents to sign. The subject is on the agenda. And the facts are 1st-8th grade a mile from their school and 1.5 for 9-12th. Those are the facts. Visit the policies on the board of educations web site. There already is a post regarding 6 year olds walking. And an FYI and a fact is teachers kids are getting transported to the school their parent works at. This is discrimination and a fact that will be mentioned. Come to the meeting. Don't go unheard.

I can think of several thing that would help, and keep the kids safe and in shape.
Move all the out SEXUAL PREDATORS of town.
Make it a law, becouse Malone is so small the kids should not lose their rights to walk the street in Malone and injoy the same freedom we had as kids with out fear of Predators., Only becouse Malone is so small we need the predators to live out side of Malone.
We need to protect our kids and thir rights to freedom becouse kids are not SEXUAL PREDATORS, and did not ask for this, don't make the kids give up their rights to walking around in Malone.
I don;t know how to say it any differently.

xd help

I couldn't agree more. I do not agree with them "forcing" young children to walk to school. My daughter will have to walk next year and she'll still be 5 when school starts. From what I was told, they are really enforcing this walking to school for 1st graders and up. One of the bus drivers even told me that they even broke out a measuring tape for one child. This is just ridiculous. The only way anything will get done about it is if the parents go to the board meetings and continue to write in and show their disapproval. There is no way in hell I am about to let my five year old daughter walk to school, even if she is familiar with the "merchants" and other people along the way. So many things could happen to your child during that walk even if it is a short distance. Twenty years ago I'd probably have no problem with this as people were friendlier and there wasn't as much crime/sex offenders located in this area. Whoever disagrees, I could give a shit honestly. I will continue to do what's best for my children and having a small child walk to school alone for a mile or longer is not something I agree with. And as far as people saying the children need it because alot of them are obese...well that may be the case but it still doesn't mean they can't be injured or snatched up along the way. MCSD needs a wake up call, it will only be a matter of time before a child gets injured or something worse happens and it turns and falls back on the school district.

Walk with her or give her a ride, don't expect me to take care of your kids (and you are since my taxes go up if they change the bus plan.) If you're working, ask your boss to change your shift or give you a bit of time off. If he says no, then maybe you should blame the boss for the problem, not the school. You're probably one of the folks who whine about taxes, well guess what, your taxes pay for the buses, so more busing = more taxes. Are you good with that? Didn't think so. Typical Malonian-take care of me, me, me, cause I don't want to take care of myself.

and btw xdrunk-you live in virginia so knock off the "we" crap. Until you start paying taxes up here, you got no right to tell anyone here what to do or use the word "we." so, to put it in terms you'll understand stfu.

You are completely clueless, do you have children that attend the Malone school district? Im sure you do but they are older and don't need to ride the bus or are old enough to walk by themselves. Grow up, nobody is asking anyone to take care of my child, god forbid I refuse to let a five year old walk to school, on main street, alone. Shall I post a link of a map of all the registered sex offenders that live on Main st? Yes I pay taxes, if it meant the taxes going up to ensure the safety of children then so be it. Your ignorance amuses me. And I know for a fact there are MANY more parents out there that feel the same exact way.

You are asking me to take care of your kids, by demanding that I pay more taxes to transport your kids. You are responsible to keep your kids safe, so walk with them or drive them yourself. I had kids who had to walk. I walked with them or drove them. I didn't ask other parents to pay more money, I took care of them and solved the problem all by myself.

If you're that concerned about sexual predators and children walking to school, why don't you just move somewhere else like Chateaugay or St. Regis Falls?
