Walmart is full of people who don't know any better, or who have no choice but to buy inferior brand name merchandise and knock- offs from China. I don't shop there. No one I know shops there. Walmart is killing this country by underselling everyone else in the area (even if you don't take the above into consideration), often at a loss to Walmart, for the express purpose of driving local venders out of business. That's their business plan.

The Monettes have opted for the classic monopoly business model... you own all the means of supply (or enough to be the trend) and charge whatever you want. Their game is finding the maximum point at which consumers will pay, before seeking alternatives en masse. It's the same game, played from different directions, with the same outcome.

And now they've branched into tourism... the last product this area has to offer. Unless dramatic actions are taken and soon they'll screw that up for everybody else as well. They seem to have an equation, but not a whole lot of business sense.

Both Walmart and the Monettes seem to have similar low wage, little or no benefit employee compensation packages. And Walmart's track record with women and minorities is not at all good. If the Monettes had minorities to exploit around here, what do you think would be happening?

Right.

I donít particularly like the Monetteís.

However they create jobs. Do they get rich doing it? Seems so but they put people to work (even if there is an inferior benefits package).

Unfortunately, too many Americans sit around whining and do nothing for their community and their country. At least the people the Monette's employee are not collecting social services Ė if they do they received less in services.

Wake up. WE ARE DRIVING OUR COUNTRY INTO A HOLE THAT WE CANNOT GET OUT OF!!

Too many people like to play the blame game. Itís Washingtonís fault, itís Albanyís fault, itís the presidentís fault, itís the fault of everyone on DSS, itís the powers that be. Wrong,Wrong,Wrong, wrong.

Malone residents need to help get the car out of the ditch, we could do it together if we spent less time complaining about who got it in the ditch. IT DOESNíT MATTER. What matter is DOING SOMETHING to get it out. Volunteer to hand out food to families that have none. Drive veterans to the VA. Deliver meals on wheels. Visit an older relative. Help your neighbor fix the front door on his house. Hold the door open for someone. Tell someone to have a nice day.

DO SOMETHING AND QUIT THE WHINING AND NAME CALLING.

(Iíll be able to measure your level of helping other residents by the level of your whining and name calling in response to this post.

And I care about this because...? You're awfully critical for someone who knows next to nothing about the target(s) of your criticism. Others do things you couldn't fathom, or otherwise wouldn't necessarily see. Or perhaps things you don't value, but that are appreciated by someone else.

Many of us refuse to work for the greater enrichment of thieves.

There's a name, I suppose, but practice what you preach. You seem to be criticizing people you really don't know by calling them 'whiners' and 'name callers'. So, regarding your 'measure': judge yourself before you judge anyone else.

There's also reality attached to that description.

Perhaps the Monettes could be best compared to Tru Stitch. When Tru Stitch was here, local people had a source of low wage employment, but that company fought tooth and nail to keep anyone and anything else out of here.

That's the TOPIC.

At least in those days it was possible to get a reasonable factory job in Massena. Lots of Malone people did exactly that. That is no longer an option, really. There are the prisons; very few people are cut out for that. The prisons might be located here but they are much more of a regional draw, as far as employment goes.

I refuse to judge anyone. I think most people are pretty good judges of whether they are doers or whiners.

You don't have to be a qualified Psychologist to read the posts and determine who is whining and who is doing.

There are always things that you do not know and can't know in a forum like this. I can't decide whether you are "doing" something for the community or just whining.

If you have the skills you do not have to work for the Monette's. You don't have to work for thieves. However the reality may be that if you don't take a low paying job, you don't have any job.

Your comparison of the Monette's and Tru Stitch is pretty close except the Monette's will never "use" the number of people that Tru Stitch did. It put dollars into the economy but it was hard work. Punching out the soles of shoes 8 hours a day every day is difficult and you only got paid for the number of pieces you stamped out.

I agree with your last 2 paragraphs. They show some incite into the problems Malone faces.

Do you know what their wage and benefit structure/rates are? If so, please tell us what they are.

Do you think they sit around and make anonymous, idiotic rants about people online?
Of course not they are too busy managing their enormous finances. Investing in stocks and bonds. Analyzing market trends.
And if they did decide to waste a few minutes and visit this goofy website can you imagine how they would laugh at the disturbed individual who has made himself insane with feelings of jealously, rage and inadequacy?
They are going to be the major power players in this town for many, many years to come.
how do you know what they do with their money , unless your one of them. you sound rediculous ranting about their money.give us a break.

While they're raking it in, doing NOTHING, except claiming a ridiculous, inordinate portion of the profit from YOUR labor for THEMSELVES.

You need a UNION, brother!

ORGANIZE!!!

SOLIDARITY!!!!

And ANY and ALL economic assistance coming into this area needs to go into COMPETITIVE ENTERPRISE. That's capitalism... not the ridiculous feudalism that prevails in Malone now. What is happening now is ECONOMIC DICTATORSHIP. What we need is a healthy, robust, COMPETITIVE ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT.
