Why would Malone say no to it over $600,000.00.
That money is a drop in the bucket for what good that new road would do for Malone.

Sometime Malone just needs to move ahead.

Because it isn't going to happen. And fixating on it means we won't get anything else either.

It's the same reason they won't look into constructing a bypass: we have to protect our thriving and successful downtown businesses! Don't divert traffic away from downtown!

Go take a look at communities that have a bypass. If you do you won't push for one. There are several between Malone and Watertown.

Good policy takes more than just having an idea pop into your head - which is why we spend so much money on education.(Yes, there is a lot of waste)

The reason Franklin County doesn't have a Planner is we insist it is better to shoot from the hip (and we don't want to discriminate against our ignorant friends). How's that working out for us?

imagine that the Northway I87 was never built, we would still be driving from Albany up route 9 now consider what we do from Plattsburgh to Watertown, Ancient, Antiquated and Assanine.
The answer lies before us for increased for Jobs, building the highway, increased opportunities for us and our children,
We need to think about this positively or as a transportation revolution ,just like the benefits of the industrial revolution and the information revolution
Lets think about all Getting Onboard as this ship could set sail and be set in motion if we would think about the positives which would certainly outweigh the negatives

All this highway would do would be divert traffic off Route 11. Cars would speed right by Malone.

A better idea, with a much better chance of happening, is to construct by ways off RT11 that go around bigger towns like Malone and Potsdam and Canton. IE: 1-11 around Malone, 2-11 around Postdam and 3-11 around Canton.

What exactly does Malone have to offer any one passing by down town? Nothing, there is nothing there worth stopping to see. Maybe if there were shops worth going too it would be one thing., but there isn't. Let's see we have the florist, antique, rehab, dentist, lawyers, a diner, and 6 "Quick marts" (plus or minus some others). So some one please tell me what is going to draw the tourism out of any of that? Maybe a Super highway isn't the way to go but at least there are people willing to come up with ideas instead of wanting to keep the town in a perpetual state of dying. If we can't get more business in here then we have nothing to offer our youth to stay and prosper here.

The Village is engaged in a stupid tit- for- tat pissing contest with St Lawrence County. This, when we should be COOPERATING, and looking for ways to together serve our MUTUAL INTERESTS, as this highway project surely would. If St Lawrence County is dragging its feet on the gas line project? It's because they have FAR MORE SENSE than Franklin County.
Clearly there is NOBODY in our village government even remotely capable of being able to see the forest for the trees. If there's anything this area CAN'T AFFORD, it's more STUPID.
NO... the Chamber of Commerce wants NOTHING to change. Except, of course, to round up the local residents and put them in camps, perhaps, were they able to get away with THAT.
But let's not give Hill, et al, ANY ideas. We have already been SOLD OUT quite enough.
Maybe you could write someone down in Albany about it. They take your letters very seriously. In fact your letters are probably taken almost as seriously down there as your posts are on here.( LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL,)

Rooftop Highway.
Plattsburgh I-87 to Clayton I-81. Route 37 goes this distance already but has traffic lights along its length. Putting in a super highway may not save a bunch of money. They did the same in Buffalo when they put in the I-290 and I-190. A lot of the land taken over was due to "eminent domain" They'd offer you money for your land rights. If you said NO, they'd move in anyways and you wouldn't see a red cent. They'd force you off "your" land, just to build a stanchion for their highway overpasses. There's still people that are mad 'cause the state took over.

Gee, Hugh Hill is ANTI- UNION, too. And why? Well, because his MONETTE BOSSES at the CHAMBER OF COMMERCE know that if living wages and decent benefits are available ANYWHERE in an area, that raises salary and the demand for decent benefits EVERYWHERE in the area. And when you're fueled by pure GREED? You can't have any of THAT, now, can you?
We elected a DEMOCRAT... and we got a DINO WEASEL.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Thank Mr. Hill for thinking, according to you it would be good, well we know the APA won't let it happen in the park, so we would have to take valuable farm land away from farmers, who by the way pay the bulk of taxes here, so that land falls off the tax roll, can that be good?, I don't think so, the feds are broke, the state is broke, the village of Malone has no money, the town of Malone has no money, so where would a responsible person get that money?,maybe you should pull your head out of the clouds come up with a plan that does not take private tax paying land off the tax roll, & run for office. I am guessing, you are a business who kept other businesses out of Malone, & are mad as hell, someone had the nerve to open a nice new hotel, & restaurant, damn competition now you might have to invest in your dump, fix it up,competition is here weather you like it or not. Where were you when the state had the money for that road in early 2000, you have no one to blame but yourself.

I know that highways are a foreign concept to you out there in MONTANA, but here in NY we value access to civilization.
Not only do we need I98 HERE, it should be extended all the way to the Maine Turnpike. That would open up all of Northern New England to access, and some miniscule opportunity for economic development. It's a no brainer. Unless, of course, you have NO BRAIN.
And I thought we elected a MAYOR in Malone last fall... why on earth has Hugh Hill been allowed to speak for not only the Village Board, but the entire village? Um, NO. He's overstepping the boundries of the position he was elected to, even while he's neglecting his primary task of representing the RESIDENTS of the VILLAGE OF MALONE.
And Hill shouldn't even be there to begin with. That he simultaneously serves as an officer of the Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Trustees (TRUSTEES... imagine THAT) is precisely the same ethical violation as a if a PAID LOBBYIST were simultaneously serving as a MEMBER OF CONGRESS. This is not just a neglict of duty... it could well be criminal activity. Malone does NOT need this, not one bloody bit.
It all comes down to a choice: do you want your children raised as criminals, or should they have civic leaders to emulate who have some sort of value system? The least bit of ethics?
No matter. The law is the law, and Malone isn't all that isolated, after all. You might be able to let heroin dealers run the streets if you want to, I suppose, but there is a line that must be drawn somewhere. Well, here it is. The Monettes and the Chamber of Commerce have stifled growth, development, and every opportunity to build a community with a real foundation, not just a bunch of decaying buildings, a pool of slave labor, and the few who seem to exist only to exploit their neighbors and serve their greedy self- interests.
The debate this week has been quite revealing. With 'leaders' like this, who needs sociopaths? The road to rack and ruin lies before us... and Hugh Hill is leading the way. Maybe the mayor will find his spine. I'm not betting on it.
Looks like Malone Yup will be spending another weekend with nothing to do and no one to do it with....LOL LOSER!!!!!!!!!! heh heh

medication adjustment might be in order for you. If you recall Malone has not grown for 50 years Hill had nothing to do with that. Hill comes back, & promotes growth, which helps the tax base in simple terms. The more business the more success, more village property sold & back on the tax rolls we are almost 43% off the tax rolls now, yes it would be good to take more off the tax rolls & build a road at the expense of the largest property tax payers in the county FARMERS, makes fiscal cents, to some anyway, you &.......? Where were you when the state had the money to do it, that did happen on your watch early 2000 they were ready, why on earth did you not take a leadership roll then, could have been a hero, in your own time, no sit around wait for someone to do something then bash, Malone no wonder you have not grown in 50 years, when a few must battle epic proportions of stupid just to try to move in the right direction, why bother, why not give it back to the same who have run it in to the ground for the last 50 years, & kept all other businesses out. From your ranting posts, you must be mad someone had the money & will power to open a hotel & restaurant damn them to hell, & with their own money the SOB'S.

A bypass eliminates traffic that doesn't want to be there, and makes accessing the core a more pleasant experience for everyone involved in every way. This has been a crying need for YEARS... and in the last round of village elections, the Chamber of Commerce ran not ONE conflicted candidate, but TWO... precisely to assure that nothing constructive ever happens here. The people making money on us DO NOT WANT CHANGE, of ANY kind. What is happening here suits them just fine.
You cannot force people to stop and shop. Traffic in Malone is more annoying than anything else, and until those buildings are cleaned up and occupied there is no reason whatsoever to even think about stopping on Main Street. People passing through, if they remember anything beyond the blight, remember the ridiculous traffic and the lack of parking. Not to mention no reason whatsoever to even be there to begin with, except to pass through and get out of there.
Try parking along Main Street. You take your life in your hands just getting in and out of your car. I won't do it anymore... and I'm sure I'm not alone.
You know, these people weaseled their way into office claiming their first priority was dealing with the blight. And here we see the first coherent utterances coming from the Board, all about hindering progress and keeping everything exactly as dysfunctional as it's always been. Well, SCREW THAT.
This VILLAGE is as CORRUPT as it gets. DISSOLUTION, anyone??
I suggest you run for office and help fix the problems.
