Whats with all the rescue calls for young people having seizures?
Is there a flu going around causing them?
I have a scanner and hear 2 or 3 every night,

You could always join your local department and then you would know why they are having the seizures.

I'm guessing it's from heroin withdrawal.

Flus dont cause seizures, its a fairly common fad with teens (mainly girls) to get attention or create a distraction when in trouble. Its called pseudo seizures by medical community.

My friend is an emt and says that the fake seizures are easy to spot. If you're having a real seizure, you're unaware of everything and very often pee your pants and so they hold up a seizures hand over their face and drop it, in a real seizure the hand will hit the face but when faking it they reflexively don't hit their own face. Then they get extra big IVs to teach them a lesson about using medical services for attention when real sick people out there need ambulances.

It used to be a fad for girls to "pass out" for attention but now seizures are the trend. They don't know til after that when you are diagnosed with a seizure, you're not allowed to drive for awhile.

Word must have got out too that the medicine for seizures is like Xanax, so maybe they are after a buzz.
ummm no!!

I know a lot of EMT's and not a single one of them would risk their license to "teach anyone a lesson". Also EMT's do not administer meds or start IV's.

Paramedics and AEMTCC's can start IV's. they also would not risk all the work they put into their career to teach people lessons. That's just stupid.

Any diabetic can have seizures, anyone with a head injury, and YES the flu can cause a seizure. If your temp gets to high you can have a seizure.

The med to stop seizures is actually adavant. I know because my brother who has a traumatic brain injury has them quite often, due to his injury.

Anyone who fakes a seizure needs mental help. The drugs they have to give my brother makes him sick for days. It's not a nice thing.

So meanwhile some person who really needs to ambulance can't get one.

These people should be arrested if it's proven that what they're doing is fake. They should be charged for all services and given probation. As a community there needs to be a serious message sent out.

There are folks who are continual customers. However, there have not been as much of this since they found they had to pay.

There are a variety of meds used for seizures. Depends on what works best for you.

My fave:

Ativan is a benzo just like Xanax and they get a buzz. I never said emts give the medicine, just that the med is what is given. If you think a "patient" can call 911 every day for fake complaints and not get a little (within limits, like they do get to choose what size IV to put in a vein) punishment from the personnell on board then hahaha.

It sucks these people cant get in trouble for tying up 911 and ERs with fake complaints just like people with a stubbed toe don't get in trouble for calling because they need a ride to town to to to fat jakes. You can call 911 for any reason and they have to take care of you and take you to the hospital unless you flatly refuse.

I just want to say to "woo", there are all different levels of seizures and not everyone responds the same way. Everyone has a right to voice their opinion, but keep in mind your opinion can affect many people. Within the past 2 years, I was basically living in the hospital because I was getting 2 to 3 seizures a day. So the ambulance calls a lot of you have heard could have been because of me, and a lot of other people who suffer from epilepsy. I have "myoclonic epilepsy" which is above grand mal seizures. It is the worst level and has all stages of seizures in one. I think it is so wrong of a lot of you saying we are probably "faking" them for attention. Its disgusting. And to the person saying the flu cannot cause seizures.. you are wrong. last year i had a temperature of 103 causing me to go into a seizure. a rise or sudden drop in temperature can definitely bring one on. I have gone through topamax, keppra, depakote, lamictal, dilantin, ect and none of these medications were working for me.. not to mention the bad side effects. there is so much more that i could say but if you're really wondering about all of it, do some research, don't state silly opinions of what you "think" is going on. It makes you look uneducated and ignorant. Epileptics deal with enough such as not being able to drive, not being able to go into certain places with lights, not knowing when the next seizure will be, and not knowing if you'll make it through. because bad seizures, like myoclonic seizures can stop breathing like it did for me several times. Its a lot to deal with and it really doesn't help when people say things like this. Ask someone who has it or look it up online and get the facts straight.
guess what

There is a lady on branch street who regularly fakes seizures and fainting and hyperventilating in order to get the Malone rescue over to bring her to the emergency room in hopes of getting some real "saucy" meds. You can set your watch to it.

Hey Amanda I never said all seizures were fake, either you are hyper sensitive or all those seizures messed with your reading comprehension.

We were discussing a rash of seizure calls, and someone was afraid there was a "flu" causing people to seize.

There are well documented instances of teenagers faking seizures, some have real disorders but some do it for attention, so much so that the internet holds endless debates by medical personnell over ways to identify seizures as real or fake.

You're probably too young to remember a show called Sanford and Son wherein the elderly dad would grab his chest and yell to his dead wife in heaven "Elizabeth! I'm coming to see you!" everytime he had an argument with his son. Sometimes people fake chest pain too, especially for some reason, young men arrested and headed to jail. Or around Malone, prisoners who want a field trip and to see pretty nurses. Doesn't mean people out there don't have heart attacks.

That's actually one of my favorite. I know it very well. All i'm saying is, if you're going to have a Public discussion where everyone can see, don't just spout off what you THINK us 'young teens' are doing to get high. at least TRY to make it sound educated.
