Being an out of towner I am sure its unfair to single out 1 bad neighborhood.. But cutting across from rt 37 to the hospital via lower park st is a rather unpleasant visual on the eyes. Abandoned cars, mini flea markets in front yards, dilapidated houses.. Yeeesh!

I can't believe that the police allow all the people to park on Rennie Street. There are cars parked on the road and one of these days there is going to be a bad accident because of this. There is no room for people to park ON THE ROAD.

Yes, there are bad sections in every town. But Lower Park has produced some fine citizens too.

yes, and look how far that area has actually progressed from the 60's and 70's. back then it was a real horror show. too bad the river keeps screwing up all the improvements.

Absolutely. Those people are getting screwed. Its not their fault the hydro dam released all that sediment years ago and jammed the river up.

So, perhaps that district would be a good place for the town or county to buy up properties for a riverside park.

Such a thing would not be out of the question for financial reasons... there is funding available now and then for projects like this, from a variety of sources. And there's always the possibility of doing some of it with private and corporate funding.

It would take some leadership, and organization, and a plan. That's all.

Aren't they already doing a riverside park off the Main Street bridge?

And there's a law that says there can't be more than one? There's already a riverside park off Duane Street, too, a pretty big one. People get a whole lot of use out of that.

I'm just saying that there are constructive uses even for land in a flood plain. It takes a vision that isn't short sighted, and a plan that isn't self- serving, and around here that means political change that will result for a better future for everyone concerned.
