1985 were state champions.

1970 District runner up to an undefeated New Madrid team. Lost 3 games by a total of 6 points.

1954-57 4 straight district champions - Lost twice in state tournament to KC Pembroke Hill

1991 - District Champions - Lost in sectional to eventual state Champion Festus.

2006(?) District Champion with 1 regular season loss. Relatively soft schedule though.

1977 District runner up - Lost only 3 games all season.

Malden could be really good every year in hoops if the school and community would put more into. Malden could be powerhouse in hoops bc they got the athletes to do it.

if mexicans can play ball yall got it made should be plenty of them to make a team it will take at least sixty mexicans to run the restaraunt, the bar , and ice cream shop . and they got to have kids. be a good match coach speaks broken english now the players will too.

Very impressed w/ your knowledge & support of Malden/now & in the past. Despite the yrs of Championships won, who do you think were some of the best players, past & present. I graduated 'years ago' so the names from the 70's will be familar to me. I know that's a hard one!

Here are 12 that I came up with just a few minutes thought. The list is in no way exhaustive or set in stone.

If I left off someone, please add to the list. I know I forgot some very good players. I did not do this to make anyone mad.

Listed alphabetically:

Carl Holloway
Robert Ison
Donnie Jenkins
David Jones
Gene Jordan
Jason Maddox
Ray Pugh
Louis Shurn
Jerald Stafford
Maurice Thompson
Wilbur Thornton
Willie Wilson

Notes - One of my favorites to watch was Braid Kilgore. He got more "garbage" points inside than any < six-footer ever.

Probably my two favorite memories are:

(1)In a game we eventually lost, at the Oakville/Mehlville thing when Steve Stafford guarded the St. Louis area record holder for three pointers. He was in his face all night. And with the use of some nasty screens, the fellow did make a couple, but way way under his average. At the end of the game, Steve collapsed with leg cramps!

(2) In a Bloomfield tournament championship game, we were struggling and losing to Bernie late in the third quarter. Ray Pugh jumped up and grabbed a defensive rebound and slapped the ball. For the next couple of minutes, he took over the game. Malden settled down and went on to win their second Bloomfield tournament championship in a row. I think the final was over a 10 point win!

Malden has always had talent in players, cant say the same about the coaches. Coach Orr was a racist pig idiot, only looking for his daughter amy a spot on the boys team. He was the worst coach ever.

If carl townsend could have kept his personal feelings out of how the teams were picked, malden would have plenty of state championships. Also since coach blaylock, hung out at the smoke house, he also picked anyone related to the people who owned the house, and anyone associated with the house, living no room for people who had talent. He was so high, he could coach a dog race.

I almost forgot abouy coach clayton. He spent more time at the smoke house, than coach blaylock. Both these guys should have been drug screened daily, instead they were left to decide who made the teams. What a joke clayton was, he was a failure. He was not a role model, but he was a roll model, lmao..
