Seems to me, if you're on welfare, then you probably don't have the money for drugs. If you are addicted and you're on welfare, well then maybe it's time to consider some other options for you. And if we have no other options, maybe it's time we start looking at raising money for state-funded rehab rather than passing state-wide anti-smoking bans. Or teaching Creationism in school. Or creating "carbon credit" programs. Just seems to me.

Hold please says-
"Seems to me, if you're on welfare, then you probably don't have the money for drugs" Are you for real? So in your world poor people don't do drugs because they can't afford them. Get your head outta the sand. |

No, I didn't say that. Read more carefully. I said that if you're on welfare, you probably don't have the money for drugs. I didn't say you wouldn't find a way to get the money, or do the drugs anyway. I just stated a fact. If you're on welfare, that money is to go to food, clothing and shelter. That money is not for excess expenses such as illicit drugs (or even legal drugs like alcohol). So, if my tax dollars are giving someone a means to support themselves, and they're spending that money unwisely (through addiction or stupidity) then I think my tax dollars should go to a different program for them. See, it's my money, I have the right to decide where it goes. If someone wants to decide where the money goes, they need to make their own money. |

you all crack me up have you ever seen the amount they give people to live on? It barely covers half the bills and no i do not recieve a welfare check. just because some gets a check does not mean they go out and do drugs that takes a lot more money than that. after paying your rent and electric bills that are outrageous they are lucky to buy toliret paper.

Do you realize we're saying the same thing? That the whole point of my argument is that I KNOW that the welfare check is a low sum? The point is that if you're addicted to drugs (or just selfishly spending your welfare check on them) then you've got worse problems than being on welfare. And there should be programs to help someone in that situation. |

I guess the amount you get depends if you know how to rip off the system. I worked with a girl who had two kids, a drug dealing boy friend ... she got $500 a month in cash,$600 in food stamps and was rent free at the Villa. I sure wish I could sit on my ass and get that much for free ... between welfare and "disability" checks a lot of them are living the high life while my family struggles to survive. How the hell is that fair???

They must be on SSI or SSD. You can't draw welfare but 3-4 yr. on each person in there lifetime and then its cancelled. They have to keep having babies and draw on that child for 3 yr. and then they loose that to, they can get food stamps on them but not welfare, and when its drawn out in the 3-4 yr. peroid that child can never draw welfare ever in there lifetime so it will at some point stop or maybe they think it will.

1 tax payers are paying for the welfare the people are receiving , so if the test weed out (no pun intended)the ones that don't need or deserve it i'm sure it would even out in the end or maybe we wouldn't have to pay out so much welfare as we do now |

1 Drug testing is to keep the liability insurance low. If employees put themselves or others into a risky situation due to them being on illicit drugs, regardless of what they do, the company is at fault. If the company performs random drug tests it qualifies as an attempt to find people who are at risk for this behavior and either remove them or get them help. And let's not forget - a company (as far as the employees are concerned) is a dictatorship, not a democracy. You work for them, in their building, using their equipment. |

One in three tests are false positive. That could be harmful to a career.
