After I posted that comment I remembered the old railroad bed down the road from my home. I spoke too soon.:)

I'd still like to hear more about this accident.

Yes, Risco had a railroad--in fact two railroads but they did not have wood tracks. They had steel rails on wooden ties like todays railroads. The City of Risco got it's name from a Frisco Railroad car that was used as an office or storage at the junction of the north-south railroad that ran from Gideon thru Hartsell thru Tallapoosa thru Risco thru Parma and on north and the railroad that ran west from Risco toward Malden. This road passed near the old Phillips school site. The rail car mentioned above had a section of the wooden siding replaced that origionally had the letter "F" from the word Frisco painted on it and this left only the letters risco. The junction became known as Risco and this is how Risco got it's name.

The Farrenburg light was down the railroad tracks just above Laforge. If you get on the New Madrid topix, someone from there should be able to tell you about it.

Does anyone know anything about a ghost light between Malden and Clarkton? Someone told me about it recently, but I have never heard of it.
The glowing tombstone. It's out by the turn off to he Sweetwater Farm. But they have already proven that it just the type of stone that the headstone is made out of. It reflects light, even the smallest amount.

What about the grave of the unknown soldier out on riddle hill? It's somewhere out on WW, between two of the peach fields. It was so long ago, I couldn't find my way again. But maybe someone knows.

And there was suppose to be a ghost that walks around on Stokeland. An older woman. I had heard the stories that she helped a motorist that was broke down. But heck that was years and years ago.

The soldier's grave was directly west of the Hopkins School which is now being restored. My mother told the story numerious times about the remains washing out of the backslope of the road.
Apparently not much remained of the body but several metal buttons were recovered with "CSA" stamped or imprinted on them. Hope this information is helpful.

King, where exactly is the Devil's Cave? Is it easily accessable/walking distance distance from the road (WW)? I was there way back in the 70's, but its been too long to remember how to get back in there. Is it a real cave or a wash-out? I've heard both. I would like to go out there and see it.

Hey Ghost Hunter: Go out AB Hwy to end. Continue straight ahead (west) on Co. Rd. across west ditch bridge. Drive to dead end. Devil's cave is in the woods (up hill). No, it is not a cave--it's a huge washout--somewhat like the Beechwell Gullies. Remember it is on private land so don't litter or mess the place up. Respect other peoples property.

This is a cool thread! Very interesting to read about all of this.

There is the grave of that little boy out on Riddle Hill who wouldn't give up to the confederates where his dad was so they hung him. Kinda hard to get to, but the grave is still maintained.

I also heard of an old house out on six ditch between Malden and Parma that is haunted. Never been to it but heard about it as a kid...was owned by someone last name of Winn or Glenn...something like that, and he killed his wife back in the 60's...don't know if it's true
