More ambulances, MICTs, and EMTs are going to be needed as population increses in the rural areas.

quite correct; but nothing new.
homeland security, indeed! local fire departments, especially volunteers, keep going without...unless they are in a rich area with good grantwriters on the team.

i spent most of my life with l.a. county...some with volunteer fd...first hand experience with fire/rescue going without while police get everything since they are more profitable from revenue collecting.

This is an example where public safety should have a say in the approval process for new homes. It's like building a bridge over a canyon without building the support for the span. Public safety needs to expand concurrently with new subdivisions, and not forced to play catch up.

Hmm...I knew there was a huge rivalry problem with the fire and police where I live, but damn!- it extends all the way out into the vast Pacific! I was in agreement with you about the need for EMS, until you decided to make it a pissing contest with the police.
