This could be the coolest bicycle bridge anywhere. At 13 stories tall and a half-mile long, it's at least the coolest bike/pedestrian bridge within a four-hour drive of the Twin Cities.

This trail and certainly the bridge has been in the making for a good many years. Was on the bridge before it was open and the cribbing was installed. The way coolest part of the bridge is after the sun sets and the blue lights come on. There is a B & B called 2 Bear Lodge near the Bridge, They are on Facebook with pictures and video of bridge at night. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Two-Bears-Lodge... If you are wondering what the cribing is all about on the bridge, it is to give a person a feel/or visual of entering of coal mines that used to be in the area. If using the trail after this opening weekend there could be a small daily user fee or yearly fee, if like most other trails in the state it is around $2/day per person,$10/yearly per person for each named trail. The nearby Raccoon River Valley Trail will be having some grand openings of new sections this summer. http://raccoonrivervalleytrail.org/trail-even... . As one of the donor to these and several other trails in Central Iowa, please enjoy your time on the trails.

You make this sound like a nice, inexpensive adventure. Please tell me if you know: why isn't RAGBRAI 2011 using this beautiful bridge? Thank you.
