Ok -- what does "certified" mean? Many certificates can be earned in a very short time and don't require much effort. Furthermore, anyone that young, simply cannot have the experience required for such a complex job and corresponding responsibilities.

I believe the minimum requirements are a high school diploma or GED and two years of law enforcement experience to qualify to take the certification test which I think is a self-taught course but the test is no doubt proctored. You can google and get better details. As long as the current jailer has good resources, he should be able to do the job.

That is truly a sad situation that no one was better qualified when the qualifications are so weak (look online for verification of this). Was this position's vacancy posted within the county or was it appointed by the sheriff? It's a huge responsibility and perhaps whoever appointed him (if that is the case) was too dumb to realize the scope of the position of chief jailer.

I don't know if most of you are ignorant, under-educated or perhaps intellectually challenged. Your grammar and spelling give you away and if you don't even know those basics of the English language (which is supposedly spoken "around here"), then how can you make a logical choice as to which candidate would be best for the majority of the good citizens of our county?(Logical meaning thoughtfully considered...not being based on emotion, hearsay, or the opinion of others.)
It's obvious what you, Bill Isbill and family think about us ignorant, under-educated, intellectually challenged people. Your degrading comments toward our community leave alot to be desired. By your comments, it's obvious that you are not from our community and that you feel superior to the rest of us. Don't get too comfortable with that thought. Because we live in a rural area and don't always speak proper English, doesn't mean we're dumb!

I don't pretend to speak for Chief Isbell and/or his family. I do, however, tend to form my own opinions after doing some research and that is what I was trying to get across. Yes, in my opinion, anyone who makes a decision based on emotion, hearsay, opinions of others, etc. is exactly what I described. If the shoe fits.....

Maybe you don't comprehend what you read/write. Maybe you've had your head in the sand too long. I'm not supporting either candidate at this point; however, you've given me a lasting impression of Bill Isbell. If you want to get an opinion across, it might be best not to offend those who you want to sway!

What is your point MCC01? The topic was about the age and experience of the chief jailer. People were critical of that and I merely asked some questions about the position. I never said he is not doing a good job, in fact, earlier I wrote that with good resources available to him, he should be able to do the job. So, what about that makes you think one of my family members is in jail?

if randy hires bledsoe and a few others back like bivens did he will be in the same boat. however with the right man supporting as sheriff there are a couple of excellent deputies on staff. detectives that think they are going to mess their hair up if they get out of their office should have stayed on "cheers"

What about the MCSO's lack of overseeing Trustees?
Is this ever going to end.. I see those guys running around town in their orange or blue, or green INMATE suits, and sometimes those guys are in street clothes, so no one will know they are inmates..
I work 50+ hours a week and barley can afford rent and food..
these guys get up at the crack of dawn and run around "free as a bird" and have a place to sleep, food to eat, a majority of the time they eat better then I or you... I have seen them ordering food at local restraunts and deli's.
I barely can afford a $1.00 burger at Wendy's...
Also I have seen inmates working on.....I'll keep that to myself for now..
Also I know the MCSO adminstration looks at this. so for all of you that will read this, You might wanna rethink your duties to the citizens, and stop wasting our money, letting these inmates, CONVICTED OF CRIMES, have more of a life then us Tax paying citizens.
I would like my car washed, and some matienance on my car too.. I pay the damn taxes...

BTW my internet is wireless so it reads somoewhere I am not.. I am a Monroe OCunty Citizen and I can prove that..

If the inmates are buying their own food that's a good thing, the tax payers aren't. Quit your damn whinning. If you were half a person you would have a job and could have money.

I don't think he is whinning. I've seen them walking around free like they don't have a care. I had to do a double take and wondered why he's out walking around. Just because he can't afford things doesn't mean you have to bash him. He's not the one opening the door to let them out like you are.Maybe you'll get unlucky and one of them will say "scrwe it" I'm not going back today. Then wonder why you were just car-jacked!!

The inmate labor also went on under Watson's administration and Johnson's. Also during those other administration there was walk offs it happens its a risk the county takes. The inmate labor saves the county and non profit organization thousands of dollars a year. If it was not for the inmates it would cost us the tax payers ( property Owners ) more money to pay for someone to do these jobs.
examples of inmate labor-
1)Cora Veal Center uses inmates to make meals for the elderly that cannot and a citizen volunteer comes picks it up takes it to the home.
2)Habitat for Humanity
3)Good Shepard
4)Douglas Cherokee
5)Animal Shelter
6)The Highway Department
7)The Cities Street Departments
8)The two Road crews that go around the county picking up trash.
9)The Court House runners due to the fact all our courts are not in the same building documents are carried to and from so everything will get done in a timely manner.
10) Car was detail keeps all the county vehicles clean and maintained.
11)The jail trustees that keep the jail clean assist on maintenance to the building, cooks meals for the other inmates ect.

Also all the inmates that work outside are non violent offenders not your rapist / murders or even child molesters. Just your everday good ole boy that got into some trouble.

So what if who ever is working them that day wants to feed them a hamburger and fries. Its their money paying for its not the tax payers and not yours. They might be an inmate but they are still human beings.

12) They also have been used to build volunteer fire station in our county. Saved us some money there on home owners insurance if you have it.
