I have been a stylist for 14 years and would recommend Madisonville Beauty College. Sandra Pride owns it and knows her stuff....Heads is more about making $$ off the govt for grants instead of teaching hair...

Madisonville Beauty College definetly. They look like professionals and are always nice and friendly. They do a good job! I've never been to Heads, but why would I when I've been so satisfied with MBC?

My opinion is Heads. I love the school, instructors, and students. Its also really nice because they offer pell grants, and thats really nice for single mothers, and lower income people that still want a career in the cosmetology industry. We have a very high rate of students that enroll every month. We try to be very professional to our clients, and give them good services. Not to mention our instructors are very flexible with our attendance, because most students have children and things can come up that will cause us to miss. They always let us make up our work that we missed. If you are searching for a beauty school, and are torn between the two, then I would take a tour of both and make out a pro and cons list. Good Luck

Heads is for the low class white trash and mbc is for the high class. The students at mbc are amazing. They know how to do thier job and look the part while doing it....

Im sorry but theres nothing "low class" about us. Just because our school offers pell grants doesnt mean that makes us low class. But I'll tell you what low class is and that is your spelling. Example: their: not thier. Not to mention how you have to come on topix and diss heads. But that's okay because you have your opinion, just like I have mine & I never said anything bad about MBC, so why do you have to talk trash about us? And we do look professional, just because we dont wear black and white, doesnt mean we're not. We like to express our individuality in what we wear & not all look alike.

Plus we offer pedicures and manicures & a nail tech program, but let me guess thats trashy & low class to? No Im sorry, but there are people and single mothers that would like to make something of theirselves and with our school accepting pell grants makes it possiable. Our tution is 10,000 & mbc's is less than 5,000 I do believe. So thats not trashy, and there are a lot of girls there that are paying out of pocket, so why would they pay that much when they could pay less at mbc? Probably because they want to get the most of their money, and going to mbc is like buying a diploma from the internet. CHEAP. And thats my opinion. Oh and if you have a problem with our school, feel free to call or better yet come by and see how "trashy & low income" we really are.

I graduated from MBC... And I loved the school! No the building isn't in the best of shape, but all the girls are friendly && welcoming when anyone enters... And mrs. Pride & Mrs. Bettye are wonderful instructors! Before choosing a school to go to I looked into both, and when I walked into heads for information everyone was rude and just stared at me instead of welcoming me and asking what I needed!
MBC is the way to go!:)

One day I was at Happys making copies of paperwork for the salon and some girls came in from MBC!! They saw my smock and started asking me tons of questions. Such as how is Heads? Is it better than MBC? Is there lots of drama? Do you stay busy? They asked me for the number and who to talk to. They then proceeded to tell me that the owner and instructor was making them cut their hair. And color it because they said that their ethnic hairstyle was unprofessional! And the color was trashy!

So from all their questions and what they said I gathered that they were unhappy. And there was lots of drama! And that you are forced to be a robot there!

At heads we had a dress code, we had to wear smocks, and nametags. And we always had the best products to use!!!Redken color and products, Mizani, Big Sexy, etc!! And you do not have to provide your own styling product, the school provides it! We always had the supplies we needed!! Not to mention the Instructor is very well educated!!! And she teaches you all that she knows!!! And when you get out of school you can still go to her when you need anything or have any questions! AND you learn all types of hair!! So you are prepared for anyone that comes through that door!!!

And as far as education goes....you get out of it what you put into it!!! So at either school you are only going to get as much education as you want. I will say though that they take field trips to hair shows, redken reps come and give classes, and you have some really fun school projects...But I know nothing about the education at MBC!

I dont know Ms Pride or the instructor so I dont know what kind of education they give....but I know that years ago when I was in beauty school we had several people transfer to Heads from MBC! And there was tons of people who paid out of pocket to go to heads!!! So Its not trashy because it offers a grant! Whats trashy is carpet in a salon, perm solution out of a gallon jug, and having to provide styling product when you are paying them for your education!

JUST SAYING!!!

At MBC we are not required to cut or color our hair. We are only required to wear black shirt and slacks, a smock, nametag, and make-up. Our hair cannot looks trashy, however. I'm not saying that at heads your hair does. Not at all. I've never even been there.
But I can tell you that we had a client come in and tell us that heads was very unprofessional. That one Saturday they were all wearing short shorts and tank tops. I don't know if this is true, it's just what I've heard.
I'm not really sure which is better. I didn't look into both like I should have. I kind of feel like I don't learn as much as I could be, but that might be my own fault.
There is drama that goes on at MBC, but isn't that everywhere?

Let me just say that I know who you talked to because she still goes to school. Ms Pride is all about professionalism and looking the part. And I don't ever recall her telling that girl that her hair looked trashy! This same student questions EVERY student that is from a different school and constantly complains about where she is and honestly if she dont like going there she could get a grant and go elsewhere. We dont have perm solution from the gallon, and styling lotion, hair gel,and hair spray are always supplied. These are the basics and if you prefer different than that is out of your pocket.n Mrs Pride has NEVER made anyone cut their hair! I know this is the impression you got from that student, but it was wrong. Ms Pride is a very respected instructor and hair dresser in the community and we should all be so lucky to work for her one day.
And we do have carpet but that is not Ms Pride's fault. The building is not owned by us and it is to my understanding that it is the landlords preference to have carpet.

I believe our education is standard. We learn the basics as you do at any beauty school and your true growth as a beautician will begin once you have your first job. But like you said, you get what you put into it. I love MBC and am very glad that this is the school I chose.I really feel that ms pride tries to replace respect in the hair business that has been lost. Being a beautician used to be an honor and privelege and it has gone down hill. I love that ms pride enforces appearance standards cuz lets face it, who wants their hair done by someone with greasy hair and no make-up? If they cant fix themselves, what makes you think they can make you look good?

To:Let me tell you

The girl you talked to mis-informed you on how we do things at MBC. We are supplied product, perm solution is not out of a gallon, and we are not made to cut our hair. She has NEVER told someone they looked trashy either. This girl is still going to school and everytime she talks to ppl from other schools, its 100 questions about how they do things. Like you said, you get out of it what you put into it.
Ms Pride enforces professionalism and "looking the part" I'm proud to go there. We should all be so lucky to work under Ms Pride one day!

I go to mbc and im not going to say either school is better each school has there pros and cons and we shouldnt judge each other like this... we should all be looking at each other like a fellow cosmotologist...how do we know we wont work with each other one day...salons dont choose who they hire by where they went to school..lets be foreal for a minute. i dont think we should trash either school because 1. by going to school we are all doing something with our lives 2. we are in fact pursuing a very prestigious career path which shows quite a bit for a person. 3. we should all be focusing on being a good cosmotologist and bringing professional and talented cosmotologists to the madisonville area. its like i said you'll never know who you'll work with after school.

I'm a student at mbc and I love my school... Why knock one anothers school.. I mean we all use purple shampoo on blond hair right? However I do know of a few shop owners that will not hire anyone that comes from heads.. Some shops just love mrs. Prides students but what can say we are pretty good if I do say so myself...

I think this is dumb. Both schools teach about doing hair. Who cares which is better. They are a SCHOOL!!

And why when I post does this thing say I'm in a differ location? Dumb!

I've heard good & bad about both. I went to Madisonville Beauty College & didn't think either school was trashy. I was a child of upper middle class working parents that paid my tuition. So, it was smarter to go there money wise. I learned lots, Mrs. Pride was always professional, classy, & educational. She's old school & the fact that she makes you pay out of pocket for items that aren't necessities is teaching responsibility. She portrayed school as if it were a job & expected students to do the same. Everyone learns differently but the facts is it's to learn! Don't talk smack just do some damn hair.

I went to beauty school years ago at Princeton Beauty College in Princeton, KY. Sandra Head was the owner and it was a terrible school. She taught us nothing about the basics and I feel sorry for people that came there to get their hair done. She didn't prepare any of the students for the state board tests. The school closed due to lack of business and students. The Heads have been in business for years and have a great school.

to student at heads, your quote "and going to mbc is like buying a diploma from the internet. CHEAP.", I would have to differ with your on this. I graduated from MBC over 18 years ago and have been a very successful salon owner for over 15 years now. You can go to school anywhere and become a wonderful stylist. it is if you put your heart and soul in to your job. I am very proud to say I went to MBC!!!! Your clients dont give a hoot where you went to school all they care about is if you can do thier hair or not!!!
