I notice all you elk creek freaks wanna stand up for your mines and all but.... I opened elk creek in 05' and I left in 2010!! And I admit the first 2/2.5 years I worked there you couldn't ask for a better or safer place to work!! Sadly the place went to hell in a handbasket, upper managment doesn't give two sh**s about you.... Your nothing but a number to bill adelman and fergy!! It was a very safe place to work, they strive to make it a safe place to work. But that's about all it has going for it. And Jackie Patterson is one of the best bosses at that mines S ling as you do your job and your trying that man has your back 100%... He is in no way shape or form a yes man at all. However Matt pride cam only do so muh when all he does is stand outside and give his 2 minute speech everyday instead of going underground and seeing that it's being enforced! I worked for several face bosses that were scabs.. Roy ramage, John short, GREG BELLER that's a big one, Beau Maddox... Amd that's the worst of the scabs, however little bird, Popeye (before he left) dude sizmore, he'll even when Rick Hanner and Ronnie drake were face bosses, they didn't allow unsafe acts or put any of there men in danger or ask them to do things they wouldn't do themself!! So before you go begging on how good of a place it is to work you better think again and realize that bill and fergy ran most of the good bosses off and it's pretty much a rat hole now!!! Jackie Patterson won't ever leave because he is too close to retirement and to close to home and he doesn't give a sh*t about any big bosses out there. He tells em how it is although he does do his job the way it's suppose to be done.... I urge anyone that hasn't worked at a mines other than elk creek to quit building it up to more than what it is because there are much better mines out there and yes they do treat people like dirt there! This is just how it is, I've been there and done it.... Got the t-shirt amd didn't lose anything there but the men are great to work with and I do miss that part of it!!
Have worked at 3 of them "Pal"

So I guess your right, can't fix stupid.
Have you worked for both? I have and I know how it is on both sides of the fence. You are only going on stories you have heard. You really can't argue if you haven't worked for both.

First of all, I already stated that I am a coal miner, happen to be a mechanic at this, as you say it, scab Elk Creek. But anyway, I gave it credit for making it as good as it is today, just stating it's no longer needed. And as for sucking up, well you can suck this, because anyone who knows me can tell you I tell it like it is and if ya don't like it, don't listen. No I am not an old timer and no I haven't worked at a union mines, maybe cause there's only one left around but anyway, I enjoy my job, no I don't always agree with the company or management, it gives my family what it needs, etc. And how retarded of a comment to say that the company made you get in debt. This isn't 1940 and we "isa worken fo da company store". I respect all those who made it better and trust me I appreciate the pay and benefits you have provided, but as the economy is showing proof of, unions are what has put this country in the state it is in now. Just look at GM and the auto workers union. Do they really deserve or rate $40 an hour? Not hardly. So they just shut down and send the jobs to other countrys. And if your friends got fired, there is always 2 sides to every story. I'm sure they had reasons. But I wasn't there so I won't judge. Anyway, this is a public forum to state their own opinion and I have stated mine. Much love to ya!
Once again you blame the union because you are SCAB! You just don't get it because you have never worked in a union environment where each worker is treated equal, and you don't have to be one of the good ole boys to keep your job. The friends that got fired didn't even have a chance to tell their side, because there was no one here to represent them. And I didn't say the company causes debt you idiot, you are just running around in circles trying to justify your SCAB attitude. Sure everyone needs a job and I have worked SCAB before and it sucks, so until you have worked in a union shop then you don't know what your talking about. As for Auto Workers go ahead and blame the union for that. Hmmm is that why Ford is outselling Toyota? And Auto Workers do not make 40 dollar per hour, it might be when you figure in benefits, but you make at least if not more than that don't you? So are you worth that much per hour? Of course you are because you earn every penny of it in. Your right this is a public forum and I have spoken my mind

Can't match tonnage huh. We run 30000 ton a day in the nine seam with five units. That's just as good as alliance numbers but oh wait that's always yalls last line of defense. "we kill people cause we run so much more coal"

No obviously you never have, look at the record not just the recent history but the total history of the coal industry, of course it is what it is a SCAB and a SCAB feeds off the working flesh! Give me a break, obviously you never have worked in a union environment. Safety comes before production, and a person's family comes before their job.
Some of the information you have said is true. And yes if it weren't for the Union Mines, Non Union Mines wouldn't be what they are today. But the sad thing is of how many miners took advantage of the Union Mines benefits which has put many of them out of business, and drove up union dues. Sad but true. I have a family members who together, worked in the Union for 76 years put together and for this I am very proud. I am also proud of the family members that work in Non Union Mines and risk their lives on a daily basis so our families can make a good living. Both types of mines are regulated my MSHA. Both types of mines get fines. And yes safety should always come before production. A lump of coal should never be worth any persons life. NEVER. The most sad fact of all is if Obama has his way there will not be any mines at all left. Union or Non Union period. The UMWA backed him and now look what he is doing in Washington. This is a fact also.

Never understood why UMWA backed Obama who clearly wants to kill coal for his AL Gore "green jobs" vision that will not work without making our and all business electric bills triple and trade carbon credits on a market that Al Gore and many of them own (like New York Exchange for stocks) These guys have never worked a day in there life in the real world other than receiving a ck from a govt. agency. If it was not for wave of Republics that went in, cap and trade would likely passed. Union or no union - over time good bye to 80% of mining jobs and hello to high electric rates. Right now, by direction from Obama, union or non union surface mines in East Ky or West Virgina cannot get a water permit from EPA - lawyers pretty much tell the mines - your going to have to wait until 2014 and hope Obama does not get re-elected. Head of EPA is one of Al Gores followers and will do what ever it takes to stall and halt development of new coal mines and this practice is working and has the blessing from Obama and his admin. Regardless of differences in how long a miner should work, etc - UMWA and non union coal operators need to work together on getting Obama out of office and a one term president. A current President who is no friend to UMWA and who really does want to kill coal and does not care if it a UMWA or non union mine.

union mines are a thing of history , I've worked in both. But to get a contract would entale the BCOA which doesn't include Alliance , so thats would be a bidwright and sticker union anyway ! UMWA took the power from the members long ago with
all the bogus rules in play . I do feel sorry for the younger generations ! saftey is merely a word

I attend all the mine rescue competitions they are in along with my husbands mine, Your men at Elk Creek are outstanding! These men care about what they are doing! They're good at what they do! I'm amazed every time I watch them compete! That's saying alot, they are dedicated, This is to taken as a compliment.

Yeah, on that pay, but in my opinion, none of you men get the pay you actually deserve, I hate that my hubby is underground, no way to talk him out though.

I'll be rooten for ya Wondering! I also worked in the mine until I got ill. I liked it!

Take Care of yourselves.
