Yes, we need new blood all across the board. Madisonville, has ho-hum now for many many years. Mayor Jackson is just what we need to take this town into the future. As far as the MPD is concerned, They need to be down-sized. A lot of the newer cops here need to go. They think the answer to every call is to take someone to jail, after they either beat the crap out of somebody or taze them. The older cops can, in a lot of cases, defuse a situation without making an arrest. The younger cops that are just out of training, want to make a name for themselves or are on their way to KSP. We don't need bad-ass thugs on a power trip. We have way too many of those allready. Most of the new cops need to spend more time with a FTO, Field Training Officier. They need to learn how to work with the public, who pays their salery. A young, bossy cop with an attitude and weapons is not good. Sooner or later, one of them is going to kill someone. I say, clean out the entire city.
Well, this may be a little extreme

I agree with MOST of what he said. Not all the cops on the force are power hungry thugs but some are. Some will end up being good cops but they are learning at the expense of the citizens. Not all of them need to go, but...

Don't know or care who it might be, but they better be considering and interviewing minority candidates

Word out of the PD is that Wade Wiliams already has the job. So much for considering and interviewing minority candidates.

Well, I hope you are wrong about this sort of backroom deal. Don't know this Williams and may be it and may be a good candidate, but the process needs to take place.

I would also agree with Minority about the interviews

Why do they need to interview based on race? Why does it matter if the most qualified applicant is black, white, hispanic, ect? The goal is to get the best person regardless of their race.

Who said race? I said minority, that would be many (including racial) possibilities.

Ok...let's go with that...why does it matter if the best qualified applicant is a woman? My point is that being a minority shouldn't be a qualifier whether someone gets an interview (or job). It should be the best person for the job regardless of sex, race or ethnic origin.

That's right, it SHOULD be. But you know how it works, the way it should be, and the way it really is

So why do we give people different standards to be judged by? For example, the military's fitness standards are different for men and women. For postal jobs, you get bonus points for being a minority. I think this casts a doubt on a well qualified minority candidate and his hard work, which is not fair to him. So why do it?

F*CK MINORITY CANIDATES!!!!! That is reverse discimination! If minorities can't earn the job without throwing their skin color into the mix, then they are not the best person for the job! It must suck to know in your heart that your were "given" the job because of race of ethnic origin.

Add this to the mix on MPD...Russ Nichols, retired KSP post commander is going back on the streets for MPD. Why would that happen if he wasn't in line for moving on up the chain of command?

Chief Stoltz has done a fine job of moving MFD out of the 1970's way of running a fire department. Don't see him going anywhere.

Russell Nichols is retired from KSP as a trooper only and never held any rank. A post commander holds the rank of Captain. His hiring has been in the works for several months under Pendergraff adn Will Cox and long before the election. His hiring has nothing to do with the Chief's position. He ahs been retired for several years from KSP and was (is) the Chief of the Calhoun P.D. and ran for sheriff there in the recent election. Never ceases to amaze me how people on here start such bulls**t rumors when they have no idea what they are talking about.

Impossible, the police and fire officers have civil service protection, they can only be removed for cause, except for the department heads. As for the non civil service employees of the police and fire departments, they will be fine. However, don't know about other city departments. I don't foresee wholesale changes, but possibly significant changes. Time will tell.
The City of Madisonville is an "At Will" employer and has no protection under Civil Service. There are communities that do, but Madisonville is not one of them, which is a shame. ALL employees serve at the discretion of the Mayor but some require majority council approval for new appointments.

The changes being made are to placate factions of the community where promises were made during the election. This is a very slippery slope as the courts have ruled, yes even in KY an "At Will" employment state, that termination not based on cause but solely because of political affiliation or non-support of a particlur candidate is illegal and eligible for compensation and a return to employment.

All those saying to get rid of the "Ol Boy Network" and replace someone that supported Mayor-elect Jackson are talking out of both sides of their mouth, as this is the same thing. Putting someone in a position not based on qualifications but becasue they supported a candidacy.

In this town, the more things change the more they stay the same. THis election and the changed purported to be occurring demonstrate this perfectly.
