Got it, yet some "fair-minded" (yeah, right) antigay people want anyone alive to believe this "family" group in Wisconsin is not hateful.

This is pure, unadulterated hatred for gay people -- trying to stop a DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP registry because it juuuust maybe resembles marriage a tiny little itty bitty bit?

Goddamn antigay rapists. You'll stop at nothing.

Key point: Domestic partnership registry differs substantially from marriage. This is good in states that want to provide some protections, but who are prevented from enacting marriage by constitutional amendment. And it's great for states that are arguing that domestic partnerships should not exist: Let all loving couples be subject to the same set of laws.

Years ago, in 2008, I had exactly this type of idea and hoped to see the pro-gay fight for it nonstop and so viciously that they'd commit to it for DECADES if need be. I soon saw that that is obviously not going to happen.

I agree with you entirely, but I doubt the pro-gay will make much effort; for one, they fear appearing "anti-society" which to me is a moot and silly point, but hey *shrug*.

Many have the false impression that civil unions represent some sort of happy middle ground that the anti-gay would sign up for if only the gays would be reasonable. This is clearly not the case, as was demonstrated by the fierce opposition to domestic partnerships in Washington in 2009. It was also demonstrated last spring when Colorado killed civil union legislation through parliamentary skulduggery. A couple years ago, Governor Lingle of Hawaii also demonstrated that civil unions are hardly any more welcome than marriage equality.

In fact, there is a clear path to full marriage equality within our lifetimes. There is no equivalent path to these newfangled civil whatchamacallits. Nobody understands them where they do exist. Nobody agrees on what rights and responsibilities they carry. Nobody even agrees on a consistent name for them.

We will continue to fight for marriage equality, and we will accept civil unions as temporary stepping stones when practical.

If this is what *must* occur, then good. As it is, nothing anyone alive says, not you or anyone else, not even me *TO MYSELF*, nothing anyone says will ever prompt my forgetting, at this point, the following: The antigay caused these problems, and everyone had to fight or to wait for years *because of* them and no one else.

I don't *CARE* that anyone says "These things take time, change is slow." There was *NO ISSUE* here, and the antigay hatefully, viciously, screechingly created one.

And ya know what?

I promise you between you, me and god that I will never, never, never forget that.

Thank you for your post, by the way.
