Should have been fired. If I can to work drunk twice within a month, I'd been fired. Detective Jeff McPike wasn't even demoted to beat cop even when he lied about drinking. Shame on Noble Wray. Covering for the politically connect as always.

They cover up all the time. I saw an assault first hand. I was too scared to come forward. I have seen first hand how they choose who they will enforce the law on and who they wont. McPike is in my opinion a Fing dirtbag! He should be in jail! If one of my employees showed up drunk (drove to work) I would call the Police (they are also dirty in Madison) and then fire him! END OF STORY!

They should spend more time Policing their own. Look at Jeff McPike second time he was caught driving to work drunk and lieing about it and he was not charged.... I thought it was a felony to be drunk (even for police) and be in posession of aANY firearm? Selective enforcement of the law?

Jeff should quit. Shame on Jeff but also Shame on MPD leadership as well as City and District Attornies. This is nothing new look at Detective Jeff Hughes as well he was caught after a car accident having STOLEN heroin at least thirteen times from police impound. He was also NEVER charged... We the people are powerless against a corrupt Police Department. Mayor Chezhlevich (?) should do something about his corrupt police department.

I would live anywhere but madison. Reason Being. You might get stopped for speeding. They then "find" drugs on you. You resisted arrest. They taser you. You "assault them". Then its your word against theirs. You know who the jury will believe. Honest Cops like the Detective Jeff McPike that got caught lieing about drunk driving with his gun. What adds insult to injury. Your tax dollars will buy them a better attorney to prosecute you then you can afford for yourself.

It's all about who you know and how politically correct you are. Jeff McPike's father was a high ranking administrator at Madison East. McPike is African-American and so is Noble Wray. I guess having a person who is "untruthful" as a detective is acceptable to Wray. I'm sure every defense attorney in town will make hay of this.

Talk about double standards. Chief Noble Wray fired Mike Grogan from the Madison Police Department for some alleged untruthfulness charge. Mike was one of the most tenacious detectives I ever worked with when he was with Milwaukee PD. Yet one of Wray's own, Det. McPike, comes to work drunk twice and lies about it; Noble suspends instead of firing. What a crock! Noble Wray and McPike should both be fired for untruthfulness and conduct unbecoming officers. Neither are deserved to wear a badge.

Look at Detective Hughes. Steals drugs from Police impound, from cases he wasnt even working on. He was also never charged. How can we trust any law enforcement or state attorney?

The rules don't apply to Noble Wray or his cigar fratnerity cronies. The mantra of Wray's administration appears to be, 'Do as I say, not as I do.' He learned well from former Attorney General Peg Lautenschalger. But this isn't the first officer with close ties to the cigar fraternity who lied to law enforcement without consequence. There is another officer who lied to a sergeant from Monona. Wray actually went to bat for him. Since Jeff McPike's father (Milt McPike) curried favor in the Madison black community, Wray wasn't going to fire Jeff McPike for lying. It's all about politics and who a cop either knows or is tight with. The Wray administration's situational ethics team can sweep anything under the carpet it wants.

How can Wray fire one officer for supposed untruthfulness while consistantly going to bat for his pals who not only are untruthful, but law breakers? Double standard, you bet. Sounds to me like Chief Wray looks the other way when it suites him. What a poor example to the rank-n-file cops.

Perhaps we should take a step back for a moment and try to look at the wider picture. Sometimes life hands us tragedies that are difficult to bear, and even though I agree that his actions were reproachable to say the least, let's not forget that his father did just die. Maybe he had alcoholism in him before his dad died, and afterwards, his grief just triggered it, and now he's dealing with a sickness...one that unfortunately happened to rear its ugly head while he was on the job. Police officers are not immune to disease, and instead of spending so much time talking about what a terrible person McPike is, maybe we should be wishing him and his family the best in dealing with this AND with his alcoholism. The McPikes are probably embarrassed enough as it is. Can you imagine if that was someone in your family?

Anon, agreed if he has problems he needs help. It seems like they already gave him a break. There are lots of unanswered questions here. Did Jeff McPike have his gun with him when they found he was impaired. If his bosses did, well then he should have been charged with carrying a gun while drunk? Then he lied about it. As Left Coast Larry said one officer was supposedly fired for the same thing. The general consensus is McPike caught a break because of his family connections to city government. It looks to me like he received preferrential treatment.

This is more telling about Noble Wray than it is Detective Jeff McPike. Nepostism is alive and well in the Madison Police Department. Could it be that McPike family allies in the minority community where whispering in Wray's ear to make their case for not firing Milt's kid?

Madison should have never hired a police chief from within. This is what happens when the police department becomes a gaggle of clicks. Those who are part of the clicks cover for each other. There's the politically correct click, the racial click, and, worse yet, the management click--Noble Wray's cigar fraternity.

Anon, if Wray is going to consider what a person has been through in life then he should at least be consistant, which he has not been. Only a few a rewarded and the rest are discarded. The few are his card-playing-buddies or boot-lickers.

Five days have now gone by since Noble Wray's regime sent out a late afternoon, July 3 press release concering Detective Jeff McPike's coming to work drunk fest. Funny thing how both the Isthmus' Bill Leakers and the Crap Times are suddenly silent. They must be in Ignoble's hip pocket.

Not to mention that Bill Leakers' pal, Tom Woodmansee, was just promoted to lieutenant. Forget about Patty, the book should be called, "Cry Woody." The path to promotion within the cigar fraternity appears to begin when Leadkers wirtes bad things about Madison cops. Go figure.
