Anybody has any news about the "soon-to-be reopen" ferry service to Manhattan, like company name?, expected opening?, many of the new S.A. developer are using the ferry as a selling point but you can't find any information about the re-opening

Myriam, I too am waiting patiently for some sort of information.Last I heard it was supposed to be sometime this summer but I believe that is a far off truth. There is some major const.going on around the train station which was billed as a "transportation hub" including the ferry. Who knows, ask the police in SA and they are typical "who knows" answers. How can they sell homes saying there is ferry service when in reality there isnt.Maybe they know something we dont!

I pass through South Amboy every morning on the NJT train. From the looks of things with the access roads to the ferry, it is still months aways.

I too, have been waiting on the Ferry for almost a year now. I moved into one of the new developments in Perth about a year ago, and at first it was supposed to be "soon," back a year ago. Still waiting a year later. Think I'm going to go down to South Amboy and get a look at the progress myself-and ask around. I'll post my findings soon.

Ok, I asked Westminister properties, they are behind the new developments on the waterfront, and according to one of their representatives, the ferry service is a ways off. They're not sure, but their thinking is that until they build another building or two there isn't enough people to support the ferry as of yet. Not my words people-theirs. They seem to think it will be another year or so. But again, they are not sure about that. I'll ask the mayor for a definitive answer and get back to this thread.

Again tryed to get information from South Amboy town offices but they are so typically "no idea" rather than trying to help. Guess thats why they have the jobs they do!I have also heard Keyport is trying to resurrect their ferry service as well.I also checked with the builder and was told "late summer".Looking at the former ferry site it dosent appear we are anywhere near getting this service back anytime soon.

Spoke to Mayors secretary, the mayor is "TRYING" to get this started by Fall 07, but no firm dates yet. My take is, that it ain't happening.

Neither the mayor's office or the city council president has gotten back with me for over a week now about this. And in tune with Samue, when I spoke with Westminster properties about this, I walked away with the distinct impression that it would be another "year or probably two" before this ferry would materialize. What's sad about this is that they told everybody that has moved into these new buildings that the "ferry would be coming soon." We're not happy campers at all over this since that was a strong point for us when moving here. Going to request an interview with the mayor about this.

Troy: I understand your disappointment with the situation, but the NJT train at South Amboy is still a good alternative to either downtown or midtown NY. The ferry, which was doing very well before the shutdown, is at the mercy of the highway consruction. This work seems to be taking forever. Frank

Where does the Ferry stop? Does it go right from South Amboy to downtown NY? Does it stop in Perth Amboy?

Troy- I feel for you and your families situation. That is rotten. I was a rider on the boat for about 2 1/2 years. It was a great commute. We were told it would be back in the Fall of 07'. But as you can see, that seems to be a lie. Alot of us are disappointed. I drive everyday over to Belford, N.J. from Old Bridge - 17 miles, that boat is $606 a month. Between the price of the boat and my taxes, I could be saving that money and pay a cabana boy to do my house chores. haa haa haa. Hope all works out for you and my old buds from the boat. beanz :)

first of all everybody has to understand that with the price of oil the possibility of the ferry returning to southamboy is remote.. i took the ferry from first sail & none of the services were prepared for the long haul. seastreak had old equiptment that have frequent breakdowns, then came waterways & they had a nice boat on loan from up north but once the owners needed it back they also went byby.. so then came in the yellow taxi service. well they were the best but...... there boats were for short haul only (small boats)(nyc harbor hops) & when the weather kicked up you were in for a rough ride(hold on cowboys) all in all i luved the boat 80 % of the time..... great way to commute in & out of the city. monthly was $450 then about 1 year ago & oil has risen since. the boat from belford to nyc in $606 p/month. just the facts people. no the boat never stopped at perth amboy but talks have been rampant.. personaly i really miss having a beer on the way home during those great summer nights home & breakfast in the morning on the back deck cant't come close to any other commute i have ever had. sorry so long winded but i am just saying it like it was...

My husband and I took a ride into South Amboy about 2 months ago and stopped in at the Police Station and inquired about the Ferry. We we told that they did not know when, and if ever, it would return.

I too was a daily South Amboy ferry commuter and now travel south to Belford from Sayreville to commute to Wall St.The service is very reliable and if there is a breakdown there is another boat in its place.I cant get myself to ride the trains and Path, not a civilized commute whatsoever! I guess all we can do is hope and pray someone is listening to us.All along the builders in South Amboy still sell the "highspeed ferry" as if it is docking tomorrow! Why dosent South Amboy's mayors office at least give periodic updates and why did they redo all the roads and bridges over the "proposed ferry station" area anyway? Seems like a waste of money to me! Everyone keep up the calling, writing and blogging perhaps we'll get some info. Cheers

There are not enough commuters to make the runs reasonably priced for us and profitable for them. Michael - how do you get to the Belford ferry from Sayreville? DO you know any back roads? How long does it take? After the ferry service stopped I tried the train but it was too grueling so now I drive. I am considering the Belford service but am wondering how long it will take to get in. Thanks Much!
