I have no doubt this site will quickly devolve into attacks against collective bargaining by those with nothing to gain.

These discussions are truly bizarre. On the side of labor- both union and non-union are large numbers of people who are proud to say they are either members of a collective bargaining unit or are in support of those who are under attack. The other side actually waging the battle (not those commenting on this forum) are very wealthy individuals making 6 or more figure salaries either sitting in legislatures or fancy offices. They are not commenting on this site.

It boils down to an argument involving middle class workers fighting for their rights opposed by unpaid mercenaries ignorant to the fact that regardless of the outcome in law they are going to lose too. There is no way taxes are going to be reduced on the middle class regardless.
Let's try a bit of honesty. I am proud to have worked for 30+ years as a teacher and member of a bargaining unit while working every summer and most vacations as a non-union worker. I am middle class surviving on a retirement income of less than $40,000 each year.
If you are a member of the top 3-5% of the income bracket in our state or nation you will once again be the victor if SB5 and the other anti-labor laws are passed around our great nation. Please begin each of your replies to this declaratory statement by typing something like "I am making over $500,000 each year and think these laws are great since they will not cost me a penny." You could add a PS something like "screw the middle class."

Thank goodness for the increase in salary, the librarian has been trying to scrape by on $82,000.

Get ready to open your wallets yet again. That three-year operating levy passed in May 2009 expires in 2012. Oh! And let's not forget we "need" new schools too.

Mt husband and I are on Medicare and our health insurance (medical and prescription premium) costs are $592 a month. Plus the prescription has $310 deductible for each of us before it pays anything. Also, we have not had an increase in our monthly benefit for 2 years because there has been NO INFLATION! I really don't want to hear teachers complain about anything.

My retired parents are in the same position as you and they paid for all of our college and post graduate educations so we can better ourselves. Now, it is our turn to help them out. Hopefully, your kids respect you and your sacrifices also.
