We purchased and grilled some ribs from WalMart, they were very salty also. I might try them again, but I wiyuld surely wash them next time before cooking.

That wouldn't do any good. Walmart's meats are injected, preprocessed. It isn't something just put on the meats. The only meat I trust there are the packages of Purdue chicken. Completely safe.

it is the third ingredient in the solution that is the real bad guy here, sodium phosphate, that is where the slimey feel and the detergent taste comes from. the following part of this comment is no bull, research it if you dare: the same sodium phosphate is the active ingredient in kroger saline enemas! really! that's right, walmart is injecting the equivalent of enema solution in their meat!

"Wal-Mart, for example, says a majority of its fresh offerings are enhanced with a 6 to 12 percent solution of water, salt, sodium phosphate and natural flavorings." The natural flavorings aren't really natural. They are mon sodium glutamate based flavorings.

Washing doesn't help. It takes boiling for about 4 hours while pouring out the salty water and replacing with fresh water about once an hour. Hardly worth the trouble!

1) Report both Giant Eagle and Walmart to Michelle Obama. She wants salt out of restaurants, let her start with these 2 stores.
2) I only buy my meats from a butcher. I tell him what I want and I get it. He doesnt want to lose a regular customer.

I knew that Walmart's suppliers injected saline solution into their meat and chicken. What horrified me today, after my family's supper was ruined, was that the large sea scallops got the same treatment.
I tried to fry scallops in butter. The recipe admonished me to avoid scorching the scallops. No danger of that happening! I ended up with a frying pan filled with water and some shrunken scallops. What a gyp! My husband advised me to buy scallops from a real seafood market from now on. Now, if I can just find one.

I guess if you can't find it on the Internet, common sense shouldn't factor in? WalMart's supplier of beef is likely owned by Walmart. I don't need a link to a website to tell me that with no butchers in store their beef has to be pre-packaged by a supplier that has to add salt to ensure that the product stays viable for Walmart to make a profit.
It's obvious a person defending Walmart must eat their old salty beef. So why would the defender ask for an article? The same reason Walmart gets away with selling old salty beef. A lack of common sense and a desire to feel safe eating the crap.

You are exactly correct. Walmart is trying to extend shelf life of all their meats. The chicken universally has the texture of rubber and there is no taste. Buy all your meats elsewhere. Why do you think Walmart is ranked last of major food chains nationally. It is dreadful. The beef is treated to help keep red color longer. Don't buy it.
