Well I have traveled the world watching countless ballet school's versions of the Nutcracker and this is not a good representation of it. The dancers are poorly trained and the choerography was basic. I will have to say that the Lead Rose was very good! She showed poise and elegance. The theatre was absolutely terrible. Is there not anywhere else that they could have a ballet than a High School basketball court! If you live in the Jackson area I highly reccommend going to Ballet Magnificat's a Christmas Dream or Ballet Mississippi's The Nutcracker. They are both wonderfully choerographed with many well trained dancers they are both held at Thalia Mara Hall but I do believe one that Ballet Mississippi's Nutcracker is over for they are just children they can't run for weeks at end! So you will have to catch them next year!

I found Ballet Critic's first comment because I googled Mississippi Metropolitan Ballet after seeing the company perform and having been so impressed I wanted to learn more about them...I then stumbled upon this comment which I find completely unrepresentative of Mississippi Metropolitan Ballet and their version of the Nutcracker which I saw performed. Granted, their "theatre" is not Thalia Mara Hall, but since Thalia Mara Hall is the only professional theater in Jackson and is already booked with a Nutcracker that weekend, and since Mississippi Metropolitan Ballet seems to sell out its shows in what actually is the Madison Square Center for the Arts, NOT a High School basketball court, I can't blame them for continuing to present their show there. I think I heard that they have performed their show there for something like 15 years! BTW, I am also a former dancer, and I would not say that their dancers are poorly trained. I was very impressed with their technical ability and their stage presence. I also read that one of their dancers was in the USA International Ballet Competition...not an easy thing to be admitted into if you are "poorly trained." Anyway, I just wanted to add my two cents because I saw this show and I think the above comment is completely off base. This local dance company is to be commended for their artistic achievement!! I think I remember that they are performing Alice in Wonderland this spring at Thalia Mara Hall...so Ballet Critic, maybe you will change your mind about them if you see them in a professional theater? Their website is www.msmetroballet.com . Go there to learn more like I did!

And you know, now that I am remembering, I really liked being in the Madison Square Center for the Arts. The ballet company really had decorated it nicely for Christmas, and I liked the up close and personal feeling...the stage was not 10 miles away and I really felt connected to the dancers.

I find "Ballet ctitics" opinion very off. They girls in the Mississippi Metropolitan Ballet gave an excellent performance.
