I'm a good friend of Everett schafers who died in the wreck...he had a huge heart & didn't deserve to die upon the hands of the drug fiends who were in the car an the woman who recklessy got in the car driving them drunk. I will press that she gets a manslaughter charge. I don't see why he desrved to have his life taken while the others were nothing like him & he had a heart of gold. Why do the good die young & pieces if shit like that live to make it through that.

Sorry about your friend. I worked with him but barely knew him. But what i did know he was always a nice guy. Again sorry for your loss. Hopefully justice will be served.

April Bates absolutely deserves to be charged. A life has ended because of her and her choices! Sending prayers to Everett's family and friends.

Can you believe some of these so called new friends claim Everett never hunted or fished anymore . I have a real hard time beliving that. You can't ever take the country out of someone like him who lived, loved, & breathed it. These so called new friends are the reason he is dead. I know back in the day he made crazy choices but would of never if put himself in that kind of danger. April bates will get her karma & I hope & pray her along with the pieces of shit she was with with go down for taking an angel from us. Her bad choice took an innocent mans life who never deserved that one bit. I hope she rots in hell like the piece of shit she is. can't believe his so called girlfriend for a week stood beside whose casket ...she was fucking 2 of the guys in the car behind his back. What a disgrace to him & his family. She didn't even know him. I just ran into Everett a couple of weeks ago & told me.he was struggling to find himself & I warned him if the group of friends he was hanging around he said he would do anything to go back in time & marry chelsie myrick all over again because that was his true love & hasn't ever gotten over her. A lot if us are truly affected by his loss & I'm just blessed to of known soo a great person with a strong heart kind heart.

The main focus is not on his girlfriend or anyone like that. The main focus is to remember how he used to be. Our hearts were young and we were inseperable even though we both moved on neither one of us have had a bad thing to say about each other. He had a tremendously big heart and always put himself last. I will never forget his passion for duck hunting which he took me for the first time. I whined it was so cold the whole time. As everyone says he was the best caller around. There was a certain group of guys that he ALWAYS talked about and hung around. The conscious decisions they made were who was going to build the fire or who was going sleep on the floor. Nothing like this tragedy would have ever even have been thought of. I do hope his family gets to see justice served. I do not ever want to see someone get away like this. There are many people who know him and know what he loved. There are a very select few that knew his real passion: hunting, fishing, animals, the love of country music, and the love for others who loved him. I will never forget the good times we all had together. I can sit and think about " what-ifs" or " regrets" but that does not do any good anymore. Hold his memories close to your heart as I do and remember what he lived for. Justice will and should be served because its the right thing to do. He will always have place in my heart. I will never forget the song he sang to me countless times " Fishin in the Dark" and always used to say we could lie on our backs and count the stars if you could count past 10 for me :)

You make your frinds . It is sad he was killed but he was doing and being with those people I am sure they did not twist his arm to get into that car. He was just arrested last week with a PI . He apprently liked being with them so it is a sad thing to die so young but like I said I am sure he was out to have fun with the others and a terrible thing happened>>

It does not matter if you choose your friends. Nobody asks for something like this. Everyone changes whether it be for the good or bad. Everyone has done things they regret. Some are able to change themselves and some are gone. Simple. Last time I checked nobody is perfect so bringing up the fact he just had PI in this situation is bizarre. I'm sure he was out to have fun but I am sure if what was said that happened she should have opted out of driving. They can take up for her all she wants. Lets not forget the man they hit in the truck who is suffering as well. As a result of this young lady climbing in a car without thinking what might happen if she were to drive. I hold her fully responsible for her actions as she should be. Nobody I'm sure twisted his arm but if she is going to make big girl decisions and climb in the car she should be held accountable for her big girl actions. We are not talking about a minor accident here. Like I said, remember him for how he used to be.

I knew Rett very well. Yes, this is terrible and I have cried and cried over losing this dear friend. I want to remember the old Everett. He was fun loving, full of laughter and loved his friends. He would do anything for anybody. I do feel bad because he was not really like that as far as running with drug users but it doesn happen and people get caught up with the wrong crowd. I have mixed emotions over April Bates, the driver. She will have to live with the loss of his life forever! Do we judge since he did get in the car willingly or not? I can't say and don't know what to say. It is so sad to see some of these people at the funeral home cry and act like they knew him. I only remember him hanging out with Josh, Kyle, Chelsie and him hunting all the time and riding four wheelers and always smiling. You will be truly missed!!!!

Very well said Friend. Like I said, remember him how he used to be. He always was smiling, cracking jokes, and fibbing about little things so we could all bust him out on it! Let the rest be taken care of.

The problem was Everett had a huge heart & was soo trusting. It's easy to get caught up with the wrong crowd ..trust me . I know but despite all of that these so called fake friends if they had as much respect for Everett as he did for everyone else then miss April bates wouldn't of been chugging yeager before she got in that car. She has 2 children .I doubt she would of gotten in her car drunk with them ..its shame she couldn't of taken her own life instead of taking an innocent man's with a whole life ahead of him. She has her children now his mother has lost her only son do to this. I hope & pray she will know what that's like one day & receives her own karma. As far as these people at the funeral most of them didn't know him or the old Everett at all. It's sad they claim to know or shed a tear for him . But he is looking down on us & will.always remember the real people who loved him & never would put him in harms way. Unlike them..yes he got a PI but that doesn't make anyone a bad person he wasn't out hurting anyone we all make mistakes. But don't judge him based off the people he was around. He got caught up with the wrong ppl & crowd which is easy to do in this town..but he wasn't one of them or a low life druggie like them. The happiest times of his life was fishing on his dads pond, out in the woods at his dads with all of us looking for bigfoot, playing with ranger, playing with rocky, hanging out with chelsie, kyle, & josh being carefree hunting, fishing, listening to country music looking up at the stars, frog giggin, I never really got hooked on country music or had a love for it until the day I met him..he had me hooked on fishing in the dark which he always said was my sister & his song...Alabama..Aaron tippin...ohh the memories are countless. Despite everything he was one of the best men I knew...he always had a smile on his face & would always be trying to crack jokes. I don't care what anyone says Everett will always be known as the old rett..who loved the outdoors & the country ..along with the music. He only changed because the ppl he was around. Which given what happened to him ..we can all see they clearly were not his friends. He changed our lives & left endless memories that my family will cherish for the rest of our lives. He was considered a brother to me & my siblings & will always be one in our eyes. He loved my sister with everything in him...his face use to light up when she was around ..he was like a kid in a candy store & you could tell it was young true love. We will always love him & hold him dearly in our hearts. I can't wait til the day that I can see him again & give him a big hug & kiss. He is resting easy with the good lord..prolly hunting geese or chasing deer with a shotgun in hand & ranger beside him as we speak. We lost a true angel & if anyone.knew him as a child or even 5 years ago you would know this was one of the best men that I've ever known.

People grieve differently than others. Remembering him as how we knew him is the only thing we can hold onto. Blame will be places on everyone as it is a small town. Justice will be served one day and the man above us is the only one who can take care of that. As he is the only one who knows what happened that tragic morning. Holding his memories close to your heart and keep his family most importantly Mike and Connie in your thoughts and prayers!

Wasn't he drunk also? She ought to be charged if she was driving drunk, resulting in death and endangerment. But I can hardly offer any symphathy to a person that allowed the drunk driving to occur. The four people in the car are the only ones we can say, with certainty, were in a position to prevent drunk driving, and between all of them, not one of them made arrangements to not allow a drunk driver on the road. None of them stayed sober, none of them took the keys, and they all bear responsibility for endangering each others' lives and the lives of other people. All the survivors and the deceased are equally responsible for this obscene travesty.

We cannot take back what ifs and who should have done what. Nobody can in this situation The fact of it is that someone is gone that was so dear to many hearts. Your right, she should be charged with it. Her family is able to hug her and enjoy the rest of her life with her. His family cannot because of a irresponsible judgement. I only hope this changes her life to not climb back in a car whether drinking or having done something else before hand. Not only did she hurt herself, someone was killed, and the gentlemen that was just driving a couple miles up the road. She may have to live with a mental life sentence but his family has to live with a physical one.

Everyone needs to get the story straight. Everett was going to be in a car that night whether he drove or rode. He actually wanted to drive that night, but the driver said she would drive instead, she blew a .04 so therefore she was not legally drunk. Everett was the only one not wearing a seatbelt. Those "pieces of shit" were his friends...why else would he have been with them? Noone made Everett get in the car, yes what happened was tragic and unfortunate for everyone, but accidents happen this was not intentional. He will be sadly missed!!!

Well as many of you don't know, the driver did a good thing by driving bc had she not he would have and yes he wanted to, I was there that night. He had been drinking pretty heavily. the driver however blew a .04, so the suspicion of alcohol should have been left out of the equation. If you are going to set a legal limit....GO WITH IT. Now had she blown over the legal limit I would say yes alcohol is a factor, but since it isn't in this particular situation, let us all agree that it was an accident caused possibly by excessive speed or just drowsiness. The driver and Everett were not only co workers but good friends. She is mourning his death like the rest of us and blaming herself just like everyone else is. So to April, I'm sorry this happened to you. You are a great friend and mother. You did what you felt was right in this situation and I commend you for it. What if Everett had been driving??? What if his drunken state caused him to kill someone or one of his friends if he drove?? What would you people be saying then??? When it's your time it's your time....Noone can decide that time but God so no his life was not cut short because of April.
