They have done a great job redoing Vicky's. The bar was mobbed and really NOISY! That noise is muffled in the restaurant but still loud. Clearly this is meant to be more of a bar than a restaurant. The food was ok, but I would bet the drinks are great at the bar.
Unfortunately we saw many people drinking LOTS and getting into cars to drive away.
They will need more parking and in the summer with the other restaurants being open....good luck with that. With all that being said, Madison needs another place to dine and visit with friends...so welcome!

Glad there's a new place to bring friends but this was waaaay too boozy a crowd for me and my honey. The bar was packed with PLASTERED people. Who no one was cutting off. And we watched these people stumble out to their cars. Not long until this place gets implicated in a drunk driving law suit- says my attorney hubby. And I agree. Wish the food was better and the bar was less the focus. Otherwise, it was ok and nothing more.

I like this place. Bright and very well decorated. I had a burger (1/2 lb.) and took half of it home. Asked to sub slaw for the fries and waitress said it couldn't be done but she did get me a small side. Maybe it's just the newness of the kitchen staff. Many great beers on tap. Crowded and quite loud in the bar area. But the booths were comfortable and near large windows.
I hope they do well. The shoreline needed something new.

I went for lunch on opening day and I thought it was very nice on the inside. i had the signature burger which was amazing.I came Back on saturday night for some drinks with friends. I cant wait for some live music. the bar area is huge with a lot of TVs so March Madness should be a good time there. I am going to have to disagree with the plastred people comments, If you go to any bar/ pub/restaurant its the same atmosphere. I recommend it!

Very nice decor, very loud in bar and dining room. The service staff is fair. The food lacks variety/ creativity. The food also has more visual appeal than taste appeal, not a very accomplished chef. I don't mind paying, but the quality should meet the price.
I would probably go back, but only for drinks.

We were going to try Donahues but won't after hearing about average food and it still being a noisy watering hole for drinkers. There are other places on shoreline that serve good burgers.

Your a joke! Sounds like you've been drunk alot and have had cops follow you. If your not doing anything wrong...who cares if a cop is behind you. Did you ever stop to think they are just driving to a specific destination and just happen to be behind you. And maybe you were unsafely backing into a parking spot drunk!
OH...and one more thing. The officer that pulled the gun during an arguement actually happened in Clinton.

Yes, I say pigs- this is the police force that follows motorists for miles when they are not doing anything wrong. Thats an illegal practice, called 'fishing'.
These are the most inappropriately aggressive pigs out there.
This is the police force that had pigs consorting with prostitutes, pigs stealing lobsters (from right next to Donahues) pigs drawing their weapons during arguments at the police station, and pigs who went around Madison writing tickets because people backed into parking spaces rather than the way Madison likes it done.

Most food establishments have a bar area with drunk people. Big deal. Of course it's loud. And it's the big "new" place everyone and their mother went to check out on the same day. I am sure a Tuesday night is less noisy then a Friday or Saturday. if you don't like that kind of atmosphere...don't go when it's busy or don't go at all.

I have had lunch and dinner there and have not had a bad meal! The place is always busy and prices are very reasonable. It is the best place on the shoreline for good food, drinks and soon entertainment. If you’re looking for a quiet night out, go to the movies. If you’re looking for a good time with friends in a great atmosphere, I recommend heading to Donahue’s!

If you make choices in life based on some one else's view, you need to take a good look at yourself!

Get out of the house check it out for yourself, then you can form your own opinion.

If not stay in New Britan, the place looks pretty damn busy without you there.

difficult getting anything done in madison because of townies who think they know what's best for the town. Parking will be difficult with the madison busy bodies. welcome

Actually you're exactly wrong. I'm well aware of the clinton police department incident between the separated husband and wife. I am referring to an incident that happened in the parking lot of the madison police department about 1 year ago. It was reported in the local papers.

You are furthermore mistaken about drunk driving on my part. In fact, I was recently almost killed by a reckless driver. It's likely that I take driving a lot more seriously than you.

The madison police have been notorious in recent years- and it's been widely reported. You are foolishly unwilling to consider how they have treated law abiding citizens in the last few years. Drive by a Madison Cop at night on Rt. 79 and they will pull out and follow you for miles and miles. Its happened to me several times and it is very unnerving. I have heard other people complain about it too. It also happens to be illegal. There was a landmark case, in connecticut, a few years ago that made this very clear. I believe the case happened in Norwich. The police practice was nicknamed 'going on a fishing expedition'

Other police departments don't engage in this behavior, and law-abiding citizens don't want it going on anywhere. To portray it as anything other than harassing and unnerving simply makes you look foolish. You are trying to puff yourself up to look virtuous, and the internet is a pretty sad place to look for approval, loser.

The Madison pigs recently ticketed dozens of cars at the stop and shop for backing into parking spaces. This in turn generated dozens of complaints from townspeople. Many of the complaints pointed out that they drove into the spaces going FORWARD, at a time when the parking lot was essentially empty. The people of Madison simply don't want such zealous enforcement. How do you manage to live in the area, yet you didn't hear about this?

How you could not be aware of all the recent problems with the Madison Pigs is beyond me. I'd describe you as blissfully naive, right up to the moment when a Madison a5Zh0le comes after you.

We have had both lunch and dinner at Donahue's in the last week. The food was great! Soups were also fantastic. The dining room is not affected by the crowd in the bar - many of whom are simply enjoying a beverage while waiting for a table. Worth the wait! Service was great also. Food delivered pretty quick, especially considering how busy the kitchen is!

NEVER saw anyone drunk! Just people enjoying friends in a very nice atmosphere. Drinks are good but not over-poured. Parking will be a problem because this place is going to remain very popular. JUST what the shoreline needed! GOOD LUCK and ENJOY!

My family and I traveled from lower Fairfield County to Madison because we are familar with the Donahue's other establishments. It was as good as we expected-great food, fun atmosphere, friendly staff, etc. We are delighted to have the Donahue's back and plan on making regular trips to Madison.

pub fare down middle of the road

been twice. Live in town and feel like we need a spot that is better than Dolly or Lowries. Even though I'm suspect on the food, I like what they are trying to do. Personal pizza fizzled. Tuna was dry. Burger ordered med rare wasn't even medium. May have to knock down clam castle for parking, because the bar scene has a chance. is this the same food when you were in darien?

I've been there several times late into the evening and have never seen anyone "stumble out to their cars". The owners are very friendly, have a handle on what is going on and the food was delicious! Yes it is noisy in the bar...people are having fun! The dining room is quieter and very pleasant. I think Shannon is a snob!!!!

Hi Jen,
Just wanted to respond to your post...hope you get a chance to read it. I find it pretty pathetic that you are going to let the opinion of others influence your decision to try out a new place. It doesn't say much about you as a person. One would assume you are a young person with a closed mind, unable to form your own opinion.

Bravo!!! Nice to see someone with good taste and a good attitude! Look forward to seeing you there soon. The owners are amazing, down-to-earth people who are offering a beautiful atmosphere for friends, co-workers, and families to gather. The food is great, and always consistent---hats off to the very experienced chef and kitchen staff!!!
