Teacher, prosecution in deal over autistic child's discipline

Full story: Connecticut Post

A former Fairfield special education teacher, arrested for allegedly removing the shirt of an autistic 6-year-old girl and forcing the girl to sit partially naked in the classroom, has agreed to take anger-management classes in exchange for the state dropping criminal charges against her.

This kid had no place in a regular classroom. It's a distraction for the other students, and a pain in the neck for the teacher....!
If you truly believe this...someone has failed you.

These kids do not belong in a school, they belong at home the way our ancestors deal with this situations, but never bring a sack of potato to school, knowing that it's not a place for them, and all they are going to do it's being abuse. THIS type or any type of severe mental incapacity means that's it's not much in the brain, they can only learn the most elementary instructions, and are being laugh at all the time. Keep her/him at home and give it all the love, that's the only thing they understand...!

It is for the most part not a "severe mental incapacity!!!!. It is a developmental disorder....not mental retardation!!!!. If caught early there is a lot that can be done for these children...you jackass. Autism is a spectrum of things and some children fall high on the spectrum and they are quite high functioning. Educate yourself before you voice your opinion. For your ignorant info, there are attorney's, engineers, architects, to name a few professions where people with autism are represented. Where are you in the dark ages. Come into the light. It sounds like they should keep you at home!

"Our ancestors" locked people away in institutions who could have had good, fufilling lives! How dare you refer to any child as a sack of potatoes. How ignorant and backward can you be? Please God, I hope you don't have children. You need to go back to the Middle Ages. Come to think of it, your thinking would be looked upon as backward even by their standards. Stay home and drink heavily...unless, of course, you are already doing just that. The world could do without your input.

wth? No child left behind cannot be blamed for a teacher degrading a student. it might make us want to smack someone in upper level government perhaps, but never disrespect a child like this. I know some kids are a big pain but there is no reason to take a little girl's shirt off. the world already has enough pervs. No six year old girl should be taught in school to take her shirt off and sit. I even get nervous seeing 8 year old girls in bikinis on the beach. It's not safe...

Now, how in the world do you have the qualifications to ascertain normalcy? How do you know that there wasn't an "ounce of normalcy".
What is an "ounce of normalcy"? Duh, yes Einstein, it's a complicated process." But then again, from the way you sound, walking and chewing gum at the same time is probably a "complicated process" for you.

Today, 1 in 150 individuals is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes and AIDS combined. Currently, there are no effective means to prevent autism, no fully effective treatments and no cure. People impacted by autism are on a different journey than the rest of us. Perhaps it would behoove those who know little to learn more. Or at least reserve their right to spew hateful pap while doing so. Affording autistic people or anyone with a disability respect, kindness and support will broaden your horizons and enrich your soul. And their lives will be enriched, too.
