We have been taking our animals to Dr. Amsterdam for several years. The reason we started going to Dr. Amsterdam was the lack of confidence in another Macon vet that has been in business for 40 years. He has always treated us and our animals with respect. His prices are no higher than any other vets office in town. Do you all know how expensive it is to become a vet and how hard it is to be accepted to a vet school. We are paying $20,000 a year for our daughter to attend vet school at UGA, and that's just tuition. It's easy to talk trash on someone and everyone jump on the bandwagon. If you don't like the man, don't go back and for goodness sake, everyone has a right to a lunch hour. If he stole something from you, don't you know how to file a police report?

This Dr came to America to take from us and not live the American dream by working hard and not stepping on others. He is a thief and admits to it. He said he can sit in church with a clear, guilt-free mind!!

He can turn on and turn off like a switch. Just be careful Bulldawg mom

I have been taking all my animals, 5 dogs 4 cats to Dr Amsterdam since I moved here in 1999. I have never had any problems and he is great with the animals and he cares. He has come out to my home and gave all my animals their shots many times over the years and no extra charge. Sat up through the night with my pets when they were very ill. He has always treated us and our animals with respect. His prices are no higher than any other vets office in town.

I have taken all of my animals to Dr. Amsterdam and have had nothing but good things come of him. Treatment from him is really quite affordable. The only thing that could use a little help is the Older lady that runs the front office. She is pretty rude at times but I think she means well. For all of you saying he is an "immigrant"... do you know this man outside of being a veterinarian?? I think you shouldn't judge people that have been here for years and have studied at reputable colleges, probably unlike yourselves. Just because he has an accent doesn't mean he is fresh off the damn boat.

This guy is a wacko and a con artist. He is business partners with this Guy:

Musselshell County District Court Judge Randal Spaulding ordered Bryon Kancilia, 48, to serve 30 years in prison, with 15 years suspended. Spaulding designated Kancilia a persistent felony offender — Kancilia now has 16 felonies on his record — and ordered him to pay more than $55,000 in restitution.
The sentence was imposed at the close of a hearing that included testimony from several victims and a profanity-laced recording of Kancilia’s call to the Sheriff’s Office while he was on the lam. During the 15-minute call, Kancilia threatened the sheriff and county attorney and said he was not afraid to die.
Kancilia declined to make a statement before he was sentenced. But several of his victims told Spaulding they wanted the man described by County Attorney Kent Sipe as a “predatory opportunist” to receive the maximum possible prison time.
Kancilia was convicted by a jury of five counts of felony theft for a series of schemes, most involving the sale of property that Kancilia did not own. In one case, Kancilia sold a semi-tractor he did not own. In another, Kancilia bought a manufactured home from a Billings company using a pickup truck he did not own as collateral.
Charlie Martin, a state probation officer, described Kancilia as a career criminal with violent tendencies who shows no remorse and blames his victims. Kancilia’s chances for successful rehabilitation are “slim to none,” he said.
Martin said Kancilia’s criminal record includes 11 prior felony convictions, including similar crimes in Colorado, where he did time in prison.
Kancilia “exploits nearly everyone he comes into contact with,” said Shane Shaw, a state agent who assisted Musselshell County with its investigation into Kancilia’s crimes.
One of Kancilia’s victims, Barbara Newland Tangwall, testified at the hearing and said she worked at her family-owned trucking firm where Kancilia was also employed. When it was learned that Kancilia had stolen more than $13,000 from the fledgling company, he began leaving telephone messages that Tangwall described as “vulgar, threatening and meant to be very intimidating.”
Tangwall said she was especially distraught to learn that Kancilia had stolen $2,000 from her 81-year-old mother. Kancilia told the elderly woman that his wife was dying of cancer and the family was struggling because they were $300,000 in debt with medical bills.
Tangwall said the cancer story, like many others told by Kancilia, was a lie.
Cousins Tony and Tim Phipps said they had business dealings with Kancilia that resulted in losses of more than $10,000 each. Doug Stovall, the owner of a Billings manufactured housing business, said he lost $23,000 to Kancilia.
Kancilia was scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 27, but he failed to show up. He was arrested in Glenns Ferry, Idaho, on Oct. 7. The day before, Kancilia called the Musselshell County Sheriff’s Office and spoke with the undersheriff.
“I’ll take justice in my own hands,” Kancilia said during the recorded call, which was played in court Friday.
Sipe said the state Attorney General’s Office will determine whether Kancilia will be charged for the alleged threats made during the phone call. Kancilia’s common-law wife, Barbara Swetkey, has been charged with a felony crime of obstructing justice. Prosecutors allege that Swetkey helped Kancilia remain on the lam after he skipped in August.

Most of these posts are obliviously by the same person, and very few appear to be from actual patients. Some one has a an axe to grind with the Dr. A long long post about some guy named Kancilla in which the Dr. is never mentioned ? Absurd.

Now the truth-- Dr. Amsterdam is a pleasant very competent Vet who provides very good medical care at a very very reasonable price. Agreed he does not have 5 or 6 people working in his office, but he charges a lot less also. I can put up with the assistant coming out to do my bill and it taking 5 extra mins to save hundreds.

So many of the comments pertain to him being an immigrant, or eating American food. Such narrow minded foolishness. We are all immigrants.

I use him and know people that have for years and love him. He loves people, Animals and takes good care of his patients.. That is the truth.

Nature boy.....your experiences may be valid....but don't discount others experiences. This guy is a crook. He and his associates stole property and said they would repay but have not. The Dr pledged his intention to repay and has not. He said he has the ability to put on a face to all of you and be guilt free........you should ask him about his dark side of stealing from others............look who he associates with.......

Sure the doctor might have a heart for animals, but not humans apparently. He told a family member that he's heard their sob story before when they took a pet in for an emergency visit. I don't understand how someone can be so cruel to a customer who is already very upset. What an awful person.

What about him telling my family that it is $800 or nothing if we want our cat to live. Well we can't afford his overpriced treatment, but we desperately wanted to relieve my cat's pain and suffering. We asked about monthly installments. this is his response: "The higher ups won't approve of this. No. The management won't approve." When I asked to talk to them to negotiate, he told me: "No. Nobody can call them. They will just tell you everything I've just told you." Higher ups? Management? A load of bullshit. When distressed people come in his office all he sees is dollar signs .

Is this reasonable? I wouldn't say so. He is, for lack of a better word, an ass to anyone he feels like inserting his superiority complex over. Thanks to him, we just had to bury our cat, and we are out of $225.

Dr. Amsterdam was very kind to my doggie who came in with allergies. Instead of just giving him a generic steriod shots like other local vets have done, he actually diagnosed him and worked out a plan I could afford to pay for his care. For the things I couldn't afford...he gave him samples. He rocks and my doggie is no longer itching. He also fit us in on a busy day, took time to ask me about my dog's diet and environment.

Wow it is so apparent that one or two unhappy (sociopath?) clients continue to come up with new screen names to continue a diatribe to spread their own hate. Juvenile and epic fail.

He has always been pleasant with me and my take is he is a person who shows respect when respect is shown to him. As far as his vet expertise, he is unrivaled. His ability to interact successfully with a range of animals is unparalleled. He has been our vet for years. When he has been unavailable, I have used others but always return to Dr A because I believe his critical thinking and diagnostic skills to be superb. The rest is rubbish.

I agree with many of you about the 2-faced Doc. His compassion is shallow and not real...His guilt is eating away at him. His associate Donald, is filled with guilt and wants to be relieved.....only the Doc can make good with his promise. In the meantime, be very very careful when dealing with this 2-faced taker!!!!

All I know is a vet in Ft. Valley wanted to remove the eye of a stray dog I took in so I got a second opinion from Dr. Amsterdam and he saved the dog's eye with some eye antibiotics. He has been more than fair with me and my animals. Doctors like veterinarians have varied intelligence and experience, so shop around if your animal isn't getting proper care. I have gotten better care at local vets as opposed to specialty clinics where I have been ripped off financially and left with more than one dead animal.
