Interesting. The government is already supporting the "Planned Parenthood" and their ideals of abortion here in Ann Arbor. The Washtenaw county appropriated $47,000 of taxpayer money to encourage this culture of death for 2008.

If we devalue the life of an unborn child, what is to say that we won't soon devalue the life of a homeless person?

Very soon, the government will start up "Planned Neighborhood", where homeless people and other unwanted, unproductive citizens -possibly seniors- can be aborted from the neighborhood community.

Hope. Change. It is what You voted for Michigan. Let us welcome Obama Socialism.

Your town will become a dumping ground for problem individuals that other towns don't want to deal with. Police will drop men at the facility even if when is no room for them. Prisons will send parolees to the town looking for shelter. Drug addicts and alcoholics not in treatment will linger in the area to take advantage of the facility's peripheral services. This will be disastrous for safety and quality of life in the area. It will also deter economic development.

These facilities do not take into account the impact their clientele has on the community. The people who run these facilities usually do not live in the community. To some it is a business, to others a religious calling. Concentrating homeless individuals in one particular town increases the perception of need. Hence, increased funding and donations. It's free advertising and "good for business".

Homeless people are legally considered residents of the town whose streets they sleep in. When your town attracts the homeless from other parts of the state, your city services become unfairly abused. Your costs for police, fire and emt will go up.

It is an undue burden on any one town to take on the homeless of another. Substance abuse facilities are important but they should take responsibility for their patients the entire time they are in their care. Food pantries and soup kitchens open to the general public should not be linked to a substance abuse facility. In my view, soup kitchens and food pantries should be handled by churches charities & other entities on a rotational basis so as not to burden any one particular neighborhood.

Don't be cowed by some of the more ignorant homeless advocates. It has been my observation that they simply do not care about the impact such a facility would have on a community. They too often point fingers and call their opponents uncaring or worse. Stand up for your community. You are justifiably concerned.

Your zoning board must way the inherently beneficial use of the facility against the negative impacts such a facility would have on the community. Oponents of this facility should hire a good land use attorney. You are going to need one.

Recently passed through Detroit on my way to a reunion. So many abandoned homes and boarded up businesses. Where have the people gone? Detroit has 14,000 homeless, this is disgusting. Why does not the city take over these properties and put these homeless people to work repairing them, paying reasonable wages, in exchange let them obtain these homes via low interest loans? In the event the government does not bail out the automobile industry, there will be thousands more joining the homeless rolls. Wonder how many auto industry related respondents have spoken so harshly regarding the plight of the homeless!
We the people MUST work together to save this society. All thats needed is COMPASSION. Hey, this is AMERICA, lets pull together and help our less fortunate. Remember "there but for the grace of God".

ok so I am 19 years old and I am currently homeless I had big plans for my life and I had just graduated high school when my mom lost the house to forcloseure. I lived with my mom 47 two sisters 16, 13 and my boyfriend 21. My family had lived in our house for 16 years and when my dad passed in 07 everything went bad. shut off notices and winters with out heat. I thought it was all bad then til I have lived through the past 2 months. From sleeping in the car to staying with my boyfriends mom to being kicked on the street and having everything I owned stolen while on the eastside of detroit. I would just like to let everyone know that just becasue someone is homeless does not mean they are crack heads and bumbs all it is, is bad luck. And now I wish there was a shelter in Clinton twp. becasue thats where I used to live and thats what I know.

I can see both sides but what she said is true. A lot of homeless people just have had bad luck. Losing a job, losing the breadwinner of the family. I volunteered at a homeless center and the people that use these types of facilities are just like you and I and a lot of children are now homeless. Shame on us when we help other countries in their time of dire need while we have thousands of people living on our streets as they are homeless!
