It is better to be safe and euthanize the pitbull.

Give me a break. There is no reason to "mull over" the fate of this dog. The fact that its a pitbull is irrelevent. Dogs chase animals. Its instinct for all dogs. Just because he actually caught it is irrelevant too. This is no different from fluffy the family cat catching and killing a bird, frog or mouse. Worst case scenario is that the humane society should adopt him out if the owner cannot be contacted.

No kidding, the general population is so easily influenced by the media and follow like sheep. If it had been any other breed of dog it would have never made headlines and even if it did, it would read "Dog Attacks Deer". It's sad that people depend on the media for their general information. American people, most entertained, least informed.

EUTHANIZE IT !!! No, NO, NO Let me have the dog, just think of all the $$$ I'd save on ammo.

As was said already, cats kill hundreds of thousands of song birds each year (some endangered) and the media never talks about that. Should we Euthanize every cat that kills another animal ?

"untrustable", who's the real moron? By the way, there's a bit of a difference of being attacked by a dog opposed to being bitten. Dumb people should be extinct.

The kind who was trained to do so.

According to the American Canine Temperament Testing Association, 82.5%of the American Pit Bull Terriers that took the temperament test passed, compared to a 77% passing rate for all breeds on average.

It is estimated there are 60,000 Pit Bulls in the City of Chicago alone. This number is so high because people are breeding them for the wrong reasons. Most of them are living in hostile surroundings.

The bottom line is simple, ANY breed can be trained to kill. Most Pit Bulls are in suburban areas for one reason, to be trained to fight. Years past, the Doberman received a bad rap, as did the Shepherd, Rottweilers, now the Pit Bull. Sadly, some Pit Bulls need to be put down since they are too far into the vicious mode. Overall, MANY Pit Bulls are rescued from violent environments, placed in loving homes and have become loving family pets. Overall, Pit Bulls, along with the others I mentioned along with Huskies, Malamutes, and a few others are more aggressive due to their territorial instincts. This is why they are chosen as fighters and trained to do so and also make good guard dogs.

You can hate them all you want, but you simply display your ignorance when doing so. Therefore, be careful who you refer as an idiot until you first check your facts and secondly view the mirror.

Is there any real difference from a person hunting a deer for sport? That's right you're a typical american sheep and believe anything fox news will tell you too. Open your eyes you moron.

I live near Alpena but grew up in metro detroit.
I have 3 small kids ranging from 5 to 11 and I also own 3 pitbulls and a german shepard.
The shepard is the house dog he plays and wags his tail, very outgoing dog!
the pitbulls:
carbon
dottie
lucifer
all proffessionally trained guard dogs, NOT attack dogs.
the diference is if you come in my yard uninvited your going to get bit.
Come in my yard and try hurting my kids - I will give the command, and all 3 go into rage mode until told to heal.
I paid top dollar for the best breeds I could find, also paid for licensing shots, tracker injection chips, and mostly the training.
I have never had any of my dogs chase any woldlife, my guess is that the dog was booted out of a car, or got out of the yad, and was simply hungry.
