long time urbana resident

I have been a resident of Urbana for many years. I am currently in the process of moving, that added with christmas means I have accumulated alot of trash that will not all fit in my trash dumpster. so.... therefore I put the trash in my city park dumpster, not thinking it would be a big deal. but obviously it was for the mayor. After digging through it,he approached me at my job, waving a dirty envelope.i tried to explain to him that the two previous mayors have told me it was ok to use those dumpsters on occasion.I felt very uncomfortable when he said i must come to the park or he would have our city officer make me.having to leave work and deal with this was inconvienient......but the fact this guy thinks 2 bags of x-mas wrapping paper is more serious than the drunks and child molesters roaming around freely, makes me and my husband ashamed and angry. This combined with my 90 dollar water bill has made me question the decisions of our city council. Who is steve dyson? how long has he lived here?why does he harrass normal residents, and spy on fellow council members with binoculars? my husband has lived in urbana for 35 years,...his parents long before that., but because of this,my friends and family will spend thier time and money somewhere other than urbana. i feel threatend, and confused as to why i cant put trash in a city dumpster, when i pay to put my trash in a city dumpsterthat was already full of other residents trash.why was i singled out? is everyones water and trash bill so high?has anyone else been harrassed for this,or does mr. dyson have a hidden agenda?

Hey, Idk who this guy is. Frankly I don't care. You should fight the water bill. I live about a mile outside of town and luckly I have well water... and I refuse to use a bathroom in that town. Have you smelled the city water?? You should send the city a bill to remove the toxic smell of that water from your home. That would be funny.

To be honest I think most people who live her have lived here forever and don't get that there is a bigger world out there. I'm from KC and I'll tell you this...its down right RETARDED to have a city council, police department or a mayor for a city of 1 square mile. I mean... COMMON People. Why don't they abolish the town, then people in that one square mile could save on taxes and could be considered part of the county, instead of the city.

Or better yet... keep your police department...but since your court house, city hall and police department are all in the same building... change the name from URBANA to MAYBERRY. Then the cops could wear the barney fife outfits and at least it would draw in some tourists. Just a thought.:) Keep your head off and tell the Mayor he has no authority and the world doesn't care about Urbana. Then tell him to Kiss off. Never met the man but he sounds like an idiot.

Ooh yeah. As far as the trash goes.. if you pay taxes in the city.. you are entitled to use their dumpster. Unless the specifically have it posted on the dumpster. Let's be honest... most people in town have a lot more than two bags of trash littered all over their front yard. So Id bring that to the ole mayors attention and then kindly tell him that you appreciate his gratitude for your properly disposing of waste in the dumpster.

People with a lil man complex should grow up. You are the mayor of Urbana, not NYC. Get real. If someone putting trash in a dumpster is his biggest problem then I suggest he buy a stick..hammer a nail thru the end of it.. grab him a trash bag and walk the city and for once do some REAL COMMUNITY SERVICE.

The great thing about living in the United States of America as a citizen is that if we aren't in agreance with our government, rather than merely complain to everyone or on online forums where we're likely to not be heard by the parties that count, as some do, we have the freedom to get involved with our city government and do something about our grievances. I suggest citizens who are truly disappointed with the city counsel, run for city counsel, citizens who don't like the job the mayors doing can run for mayor. At the very least, citizens of Urbana are more than welcomed to attend city counsel meetings where they have a chance to let their grievances have a voice and possibly get answers to their questions, like why things are done in the city as they are or what the mayor and city counsel have done for our city. I'm not a long time resident of our city, but I spend my time thinking of what I can do to bring something worth while to our city, rather than merely complaining about how everyone else is doing. Lets be a part of the solution. We have a voice? Let it be heard. Get involved, donate time to help our neighbors clean their yards, lets all take some pride and all of us grab a stick with a nail through it and a trash bag and go for a walk around our little town, it's so tiny it wouldn't take much time at all for us to help each other to keep it clean. I love our small town hospitality, our really good food like LJ's Cafe on Main Street, The Coffee Cup off Highway 65 on the south side of town or Mr Ed's on the north side of town. We've got a well known bank named after our town with locations across the Lake area in Bank of Urbana. One person gripes about the mayor of Urbana but admits having never met the mayor, well that seems rich. How can anyone claim with any credibility that they don't like someone they've never met. I can tell you that I have met the mayor and he seems approachable and kind. I had a conversation with him in our City Hall over our pet ordinances for pet owners, since I'm new to the area, he was a complete gentleman and seemed to show great integrity. This little town has been good to me and I've not been here that long. We should look at the positives that this community offers us rather than dwelling on the negatives. I think rather that our town is a blessing to its resident's and I, for one, aim to protect its name. I heard not long back the town held a street dance and I know that some in town are looking at other festive events to bring to our community and I'm looking forward to the possibilities that living in a quaint community can offer us. I hope if you read this and meet me in town you'll let me know that you read what I had to say and I hope you have something beneficial to add to this little community I've adopted as my new home. Love and prayers to all my fellow brothers and sisters of Urbana, Missouri.-Brendon Thompson

long as the same ld idiots like Debbie Glass are elected Mayor you will never have a decent city leadership. The Chief who was fired before for womanizing and arresting a citizen outside the city when he did not initiate a stop while inside the city was rehired by the stupid council and was recently fired again for padding payroll. Go figure. Urbana is a bad place to work period.

Urbana simply sucks.. The major and the council are bias, racist pigs,, water is terrible, favoritism is played out if your buddies with the city council.
Drive by maple street , youll see a house that the yard hasnt been mowed in what looks like years. I hear the divorced women there is a meth head, but was granted the exemption of farming, so she is excused from the city ordinance of her grass being above the limit set forth by the council..
Best advice leave urbana and its coruption.....
