A quick look at the unemployment statistics for Mackinac County would readily reveal that this "fluff" piece may make some readers feel good but it is wildly inaccurate.

So many prospective employees have long ago expired their unemployment claims that their numbers are not even taken into consideration.

Often times the seniors here do the unpaid childcare if a job opens up for the sons & daughters, and their families, who survive on tribal benefits or bulk food commodities distribution.

This "article" is clearly not fact-based.

Topix would do everyone a service in recruiting & retaining reporters who know how to report a story accurately.

A profile of the owner of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island is hardly representative of the aging population of Mackinac County! Who is this author trying to fool?
