Are jockstraps considered a gay thing now?

I’ve noticed that many stores do not sell them as much or keep them in stock. Some sporting goods stores do not sell them at all and only compression shorts. Compression shorts seem to be the thing now. I feel like a lot of straight guys are more modest than they used to be and that they are afraid of another guy seeing their buttocks. Guys used to swim nude at the YMCA and now they don’t anymore. They don’t go skinnydipping anymore either. They are too chicken to be around another guy naked or undress in front of him. I guess guys are wimps today. Apparently males today are unsure or insecure about their sexuality. They used to give each other firm handshakes and real hugs but now they give weak handshakes and “half-hugs” where their chests do not meet. I did a search on “jockstraps and gays” and an answer on Wiki Answers kind of confirmed my theory about why jocks are less popular now. I think it’s because straight guys associate jockstraps with gays now and they are also afraid of another guy seeing their butt because the existence of gays is more known now and they don’t want to take the chance that one or more of the guys in the locker room could be gay and looking at them despite whether the straight guy is really all that good looking (it’s funny how many straight guys assume a gay would hit on them even if they are butt ugly and then they are offended if you tell you are not attracted to them after they think you are after them). I’m gay and I could care less if a straight woman saw me nude so what’s up with the straight guys? I heard store owners also have an anti-gay hang-up about straps and that they are fazing them out. I’ve also heard that when people ask about where the athletic supporters are in a store that an employee or manager will give them a weird look or look disgusted or like the question made them uncomfortable. Could it be possible that jockstraps (a.k.a. athletic supporters) are associated with male homosexuality?

I’ve quoted a guy on Wiki Answers saying:

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_do_guys_wear_co...

Q: Why do guys wear compression shorts now instead of jockstraps?

A:“I also think it doesn't help that so many gay guys think jockstraps are sexy, and so they are used a lot in gay porn. Younger straight guys who use the web a lot pick up on that. Then they think that if the gays like them, then jockstraps must be gay. So then they don't want to wear a jock because they don't want people to think they are gay, or have gay guys looking at them.”

Yup! Just like cclored handkerchiefs (i.e. yellow, brown; I won't discuss their meaning here) Jockstraps were considered as gay as poppers, at least from the 1980s.

I figured it did somehow and now more than ever with all the gay rights controversies. My intuition hasn't failed me yet. Let them wear their sacred compression shorts that cause jock itch, sweat, and fungus to protect their behinds. lol. They think a guy has never seen a butt before.

I think jockstraps are very sexy and erotic. I wear boxers most of the time but sometimes I'll wear briefs or boxer briefs because they feel soft against my skin and look sexier. I also like the feel of thermal pants. Love thermal wear period during the winter because I'm cold natured.

Jockstraps highlight a nice butt though. I've heard guys today are petrified to wear them because they think another guy will look at their butt. It's pretty funny that such tough jocks can be afraid.

Yes and the visual just made me cringe (shudder).

From a retail standpoint I was a Kmart Sporting Goods and store manager over a decade ago and we used to keep an entire endcap of supporters and cups every year. The demand and selection dwindled down greatly as the late 90's approached.
I just chalked it up to increased specialty competition with a greater selection
(i.e. Sports authority or Dick's[no puns please ha ha]).
But EQB seemed to catch on to the cultural aspect.

So you think my theory could be correct then? In some ways regarding homosexuality our society is progressing but at the same time it is regressing in other ways. In some ways things are getting worse than they were before.

I notice Wal-Mart doesn't carry supporters as often as K-Mart and Target. Once Wal-Mart is out of them they are gone for good. Are athletic supporters a seasonal thing? Isn't it sports season right now? It's Spring. I know it sounds paranoid but I just wonder sometimes if Wal-Mart is anti-gay they have caught on that many gay guys have a fetish for these but hey there are plenty we can order offline, even www.amazon.com has some. That's just less money Wally World will make off the gays. lol.

They say people should use a supporter for just about any physical activity to avoid testicular torsion. Is it really necessary to wear one for things other than sports (or sex. lol.)? K-Mart also carries the black jocks with little red stripes. I think they are the coolest. Target and Wal-Mart carry solely white.

Focusing on other guys' jockstraps is totally gay. Starting a thread about it because devoted to this subject is beyond gay.
